Individual Values or IVs are stats given to a pokemon when you first meet them. IVs are one of the factors that help make pokemon different from other Pokemon. These stats cannot be seen by looking at any stat menu in the game, but they are sometimes calculated roughly by using special calculators around the net. The calculators aren't always accurate but the numbers are usually somewhere between 0 and 31 -- 0 being the worst and 31 being the best. IVs will determine how high or low a particular stat can possibly be.

I finally got myself a hold of five Rare Candies so as I was checking which Cranidos out of my pack of Cranidos to choose from to check their IV's and Nature. Anyway, as I was leveling each via the rare candy 'n' reset and checking what stats go up faster, I noticed certain stats raise quicker that match their characteristic. At first I thought it was the natures doing but then I noticed that was naughty by nature was having it's speed stat raise almost as fast at it's attack stat, and it's characteristic thing said "likes to run.
