Black 2 and White 2 are direct sequels of Black and White. These games takes place two years after the events of the first two games. Use the Memory Link feature to bring in information from the first set of games to the sequels for added connections. The first obvious new forms are Kyurem 's Black and White forms. Both must be in your party at the same time. Kyurem's Type and Nature will remain the same, but it will gain a new move set and the Ability of the other legend. Three new forms for the legendary Flying Pokemon Tornadus , Thundurus and Landorus are also available.

During development, the theme Takao Unno raised for Black and White 2 was resonance, which led the staff to bringing up the idea for people to be able to play together through the Entralink. Takao Unno wanted Black and White players to look at Unova in Black and White 2 from a different perspective, and executive director Junichi Masuda hoped that starting in a new city would make the gameworld look new to returning players.

The game begins in a previously inaccessible part of Unova to the southwest as you take control of a character who lives in Aspertia City, with their childhood rival. There are various other new areas in Unova, with their own new Gyms and Gym Leaders. First is the World Tournament which features many different tournaments featuring Gym Leaders and variousother powerful trainers. Areas such as Driftveil City and Route 4 have received changes in asethetics while other areas like Cold Storage, Route 10 and Victory Road have been removed for various reasons.
