The hydroxyl radicals formed on the treated surfaceact like pac-men and aggressively attack the carbon hydrogen bonds that are present in all organic molecules over and over until nothing is left from this oxidation process except water and a small amount of CO2, photocatalytically. The photocatalytically amount of CO2 produced is more than offset by the gains from reducing methane, photocatalytically, NOx and VOCs all major criteria pollutants photocatalytically the atmosphere and the gains from reduced water, chemical and energy usage through reduced photocatalytically. When polluted air comes into contact with a PURETI treated surface, photocatalytically, these super oxide anions interact with the NOx the highest heat retaining major greenhouse gas and the key ingredient in acid rain and smog and remove it from the atmosphere reducing it photocatalytically benign nitrates. The light activated, smog-reducing power of PCO technology is photocatalytically documented and definitively proven in the scientific literature, photocatalytically.

The purpose of the presented study was to explore the photocatalytic activity of Cu 2 O-supported anion exchangers and to explain the mechanism of their action in water purification processes. The functionality of this type of material was studied in the process of As III removal from water. As a result of the reactivity of cuprous oxide and functional groups of the polymer, the obtained composite exhibited complex activity towards arsenic III species. The results from chemical analyses were supported by instrumental analyses - X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. These studies showed that the mechanism of As III oxidative adsorption is based on the coupling of several reaction pathways: 1 photocatalytic oxidation involving Cu 2 O as a photocatalyst, and photogenerated holes and ROS as oxidative agents, 2 chemical oxidation on the surface of CuO being a result of the ageing process with a re-oxidation of the produced Cu 2 O to CuO by ROS and oxygen present in water, and 3 photochemical oxidation of As III in solution under UV light irradiation and subsequent adsorption of arsenates in the functional groups of the polymer. Our standard of living today typically involves heavy traffic, industrial mass production and the consumption of massive amounts of energy — and it is precisely these factors that are the main sources for air pollution. Traffic is a major contributor to this. Car engines pollute our air with nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and particulate matter. In a similar way to how photosynthesis works in plants, photocatalysis is an active process which is also initiated by light. Whilst photosynthesis uses sunlight to produce a substance glucose , photocatalysis breaks down or converts substances. In principle, photocatalysis can also be used in building materials. This process converts the gases into small, harmless components. Research and Development departments at leading paint manufacturers have been working for an extended time on the challenge of using photocatalysis in paints. One characteristic of the photocatalytic reaction is that it attacks organic substances, including organic components in the binders of conventional paint systems. This means that the photocatalytic process virtually destroys the paint itself as it breaks down the binding agents in the surface. The consequences are chalking and premature weathering, with a corresponding shorter life expectancy for the paint. It reacts differently to inorganic, silicate binding agents.

The photocatalytically-active coatings were obtained by immobilizing titania nanoparticles into a sol—gel-derived SiO x :ZrO x matrix. The resultant hybrid films show high photocatalytic, photobiocide and excellent corrosion protection properties which exhibit no degradation during the course of long-term irradiation with UV light. The possibility of a UV-induced opening of titania-based polyelectrolyte containers embedded into SiO x :ZrO x film is also demonstrated that opens fresh opportunities in developing photocontrollable coatings capable to release encapsulated chemical agents under illumination.
