PhET Interactive Simulations , a project at the University of Colorado Boulder , is a non-profit [1] open educational resource project that creates and hosts explorable explanations. It was founded in by Nobel Laureate Carl Wieman. PhET began with Wieman's vision to improve the way science is taught and learned. Their stated mission is "To advance science and math literacy and education worldwide through free interactive simulations. The project now designs, develops, and releases over free interactive simulations for educational use in the fields of physics , chemistry , biology , earth science , and mathematics. The simulations have been translated into over 65 different languages, including Spanish , Chinese , German , and Arabic ; and in , the PhET website received over 25 million visitors. After winning the Nobel prize in , Wieman became particularly involved with efforts at improving science education and has conducted educational research on science instruction.

Are you in? PhET Interactive Simulations are engaging, playful educational tools that make it easy for students to learn science and math content. Simulations can be customized for classrooms or individual learners, provide adaptive feedback, and provide data on student usage and progress. To help students engage in science and mathematics through inquiry, PhET simulations are developed using the following design principles:. As users interact with these tools, they get immediate feedback about the effect of the changes they made. This allows them to investigate cause-and-effect relationships and answer scientific questions through exploration of the simulation. PhET sims are based on extensive education research and engage students through an intuitive, game-like environment where students learn through exploration and discovery. Interoperability with PhET Simulations PhET Interactive Simulations are engaging, playful educational tools that make it easy for students to learn science and math content.

Our new PhET-iO simulations enable education solution providers to easily and quickly transform their STEM products into more engaging and interactive learning experiences. PhET-iO simulations are enhanced with a powerful set of interoperability features that enable our partners to flexibly customize and fully integrate the simulations into an array of product types, and then capture data on student interaction to assess student achievement, power personalized or adaptive-learning engines, or create teacher reports.
