I have a Tahoe 5. Since then, the cooling fan will run after I turn the vehicle off. Also my temperature gauge is fine, no overheating. I did a code scan and P comes up. I replaced the relay for cooling fan 1 and no change. I even removed and cleaned the connectors to the cooling fans and still no change.

It had a cracked Y fitting in the junction of the water pump, coolant resevoir, and line going to firewall heater core maybe? I found 2 40 amp fuses for the fans that were friend, and I tested the relays by energizing the relay listening for a click and testing for no resistance. The two 4 prong were good, but on the 5 prong relay the 70a middle prong had resistance when the circuit was energized and clicked open. I replaced the blown fuses and fans turned on at about on the guage but each fan turned on at different times and after less than a minute running each fan blew each fuse. It smelled like burnt electrical and one fan seemed to be smoking from inside the fan itself. The wire harness and clip to the fan were not burnt at all or in bad condition. Each fan worked at some point. I'm wondering if the fan could be drawing too much current somehow because it is old and malfunctioning or if it could be the one 5 prong relay is bad? Can i rule out coolant temp sensor and pcm?

They are activated by the PCM powertrain control module , whenever your Silverado reaches a certain temperature. One or both of them will also come on when the air conditioner is running. With P your Silverado should not drive any different. The fan will not affect the way that the engine runs unless you start to overheat. If you overheat, the engine may start knocking , misfiring, or smoking.
