Could be an increased drop chance when playing. Or a badge like the operation bravo and 5 year badge that is awarded to overwatch players that can prove themselfs. Could be anything really, long as it's not giving anybody an unfair advantage. LoL Tribunal dropped extrinsic rewards quite awhile ago.

Overwatch 2 ranks have dramatically changed in season 9. There are new weapon skin rewards and a new system that helps you track your rank progress after each match. Competitive matches now end on a screen that shows your progress toward the next skill division.
