USB chargers are one of the most popular things to build here on Instructables, old ipod charger. However countless people have been disappointed to find out that after all of their hard work, their iPods just sit there and do nothing, despite receiving 5V. Recently my USB car charger died.
Ben cardsfanbj. Posted: Aug 17, After doing my first battery swap about 7 years ago, my 6th gen iPod classic only charges while connected to my PC. I've tried a number of USB wall adapters and none of them have worked since. Did another battery swap recently and same thing.

So I bought a really cheap one but it never worked. The iPod, once connected, did not like it and did not want to charge. Since it was so cheap I just let it sit in a drawer forgetting about it. After reading that article I took my cheap USB charger and decided to modify it. This will be a really, really easy modification and I think that anybody with a soldering iron could do it. Nowadays the iPhone expects a certain voltage on those two pins to decide how much current to absorb from the charger. Putting a 2. The same behaviour I expected to be observed on my iPod. On the images there are the schemes for the two configurations. As you can see, using an opportune couple of resistors it is possible to get the voltage required. Obviously the mA configuration is better if you want your phone charged quicker, but it is possible that your power supply can not support that much current. To see if the data pins of my USB charges were at the wrong voltage, I used a hobby knife to open the plastic case. The cases were glued together so I had to break open them. The Car USB chargher, though, had the top that was screwed on. I was happy to find fuses inside the two: my iPod should be safe!

This was a really dangerous step because I had them powered and uncovered, touching them could lead to injuries. I drilled 4 holes on the wall plug board with my Dremel for my resistors. To see if the data pins of my USB charges were at the wrong voltage, I used a hobby knife to open the plastic case. The cases were glued together so I had to break open them. The problem is that it worked fine with the original battery, but I've changed batteries twice now 7 years ago and again this month and neither one worked charging off wall power. So could somebody who knows about electricity and chips and stuff tell me for sure: Is it safe to use the A charger with the Classic, despite the substantial difference in marked voltage? So I bought a really cheap one but it never worked. USB chargers are one of the most popular things to build here on Instructables. This was a really dangerous step because I had them powered and uncovered, touching them could lead to injuries. Those are just the values I measured from the resistors on my dead car charger. It seems simple but I had to go to a lot of trouble to figure this all out. Windows 7 and later downloads a file named tsginfo.
