It was certainly an interesting year for fishing in Tournaments again saw record payouts; several state records were bested; the winds were relentless and the White Marlin Open paid out not only a tournament record prize, oc md fishing report, but the largest of any tournament worldwide. Fishing was a bit slow today but boats did return with Yellow fin tuna, Blue fin tuna, Big Eye tuna, Mahi and marlin releases. The Playmate came in with 6 yellow fin tuna, 2 blue fin tuna and 3 mahi. The Wrecker returned with 3 yellow fin tuna and 5 mahi. The Spring Mix came in with 2 blue fin tuna and 2 mahi. The Moore Bills caught 1 yellow fin tuna, 3 mahi and released a white marlin. There were two tournaments to report. Most captains were watching the weather and the surface temperature charts. Several good sized rays were reported from MD beaches.

The weather has final made the turn this week and we have been enjoying summerlike temperatures in the afternoons. Water temperatures have responded well and are steadily rising which can only mean one thing: Flounder are starting to return to the coastal bays, and we had the first successful reports roll in this week. We also heard of a few successful reports in Wachapreague. These fish might start showing up in the Ocean City bays this weekend, so break out that flounder gear and get ready for an action-packed spring. Action is also picking up around inlet rocks and the CBBT rockpiles, where anglers are catching a few tautog on sand fleas and green crab. Most of the fish have been undersize and this bite is just beginning to crank up, but they are still a blast to catch and the action should be steadily improving in the coming weeks. More schoolie striped bass are showing up around the OC Inlet and bridges for anglers to target.

We saw many Bluefin Tuna brought to the docks this weekend. The bait of choice for stripers in the surf continues to be fresh bunker, although we saw a few hooked on clams. Our charter boats reported good numbers of yellowfin tuna! Tuna remained the primary catch offshore, however the days ran very hot or cold. By our first issue nearshore and bay fishing was already snapping with a strong run of black drum. On Saturday, a group of four anglers returned with 9 cod in their cooler and threw back another 15 during the trip. The recreational summer flounder regulations for Maryland have been finalized by the DNR. They also got 3 yellowfins in the box including a 94 pounder that set a new heavy for the season to date.
