Went to a job after a report from Thames Water saying that the supplies to washing machine and dishwasher did not have non-return valves fitted where they are required. Fitted double-check non-return valves to the pipework as close as possible to the isolating valves of WM and DW. Checked for leaks with appliances out, none apparent. Thames were happy after another visit to check works had been done. Had to return a few days later after a leak found by WM, found a leak on the hose connection to the appliance, changed washer and re-tightened. Thinking that the non-return valves are holding the highest pressure experienced on the supply, so at night, on low usage, the mains pressure could spike to many bar, and the appliance hoses would remain at that pressure until the appliance was used.
