Since the fall of the Alliance has presented or cosponsored a number of conferences to introduce people to New Jersey studies, njsaa. In the spring of the Alliance and the New Jersey Council for the Social Studies sponsored a daylong conference on the humanities as applied to New Jersey subjects. In hayling island takeaway organized a New Jersey Studies Film Festival, which njsaa held at a variety of venues around the state, njsaa. The Alliance also worked with njsaa New Jersey County Cultural and Historic Agencies to present a series of county studies programs to introduce teachers njsaa the historic resources of the counties.
The New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance NJSAA brings together individuals involved in the study of New Jersey; to further knowledge about teaching and researching our state; to promote our interests and concerns to state agencies and politicians; and to recognize individuals who have made notable contributions in our field in teaching, scholarship, and librarianship. In particular, I ask that you consider disseminating information on NJSAA awards and scholarships available to authors, teachers, librarians, and student scholars. We encourage you and your colleagues to nominate those doing exceptional work for the following awards:. Author Awards - All materials should be received by April Teaching Award - The deadline for applications is April 1, Marc Mappen Student Research Scholarships - Spring applications will be accepted until March 1st and Fall applications will be accepted until October 1st.

The Alliance's mission is to bring together individuals involved in the study of New Jersey to further knowledge and act as a clearinghouse for information about teaching and research on New Jersey. The Alliance is by its very nature interdisciplinary and involves people at every level of teaching and research. Members include teachers kindergarten through college , historians, geographers, museum and historical organization personnel, archivists, and librarians. Meetings have been held on Zoom. While attendance is not mandatory, connecting with colleagues is invaluable.

It is open to high school and college students. The scholarship is named for Marc Mappen, former executive director of the New Jersey Historical Commission and a legend in the field of New Jersey studies. He was the author of numerous articles and books, a frequent speaker who delighted in telling humorous offbeat stories about people and places, a public scholar and servant, and good friend to a great many people. It can be a standard research paper, digital humanities project, oral history project — creativity is encouraged! A one-year free membership will be provided to awardees. Date of presentation will be negotiated between the student and the committee.

In order for schools to move on to the state championship, they must achieve a winning percentage of. For football and wrestling, it is only the best eight schools in each section that move on. This is determined by power points, awarded to each game's winning team and based on the size of the school that is defeated and the score of the game. Winning percentage alone, however, is not sufficient to qualify for the playoffs. If a school's team has too many disqualifications, it is disqualified from the state championship. When a team wins its sectional championship, it is awarded a blue trophy on which is noted the section and the sport. For public schools, the two North Jersey winners face off against one another, while the South and Central teams play each other in the statewide semi-finals. The two winning teams then play each other for the statewide Group championship. For non-public schools, the two section winners compete in the state Non-Public championship; the champion receives a gold trophy.
