As he grows up and his power manifests itself, he befriends the dead and learns from them that death is not the end. He believes that although the body dies, the mind goes on and the dead continue to improve and expand in death what they loved in life. From him, the once silent Great Majority learns to communicate amongst themselves, and love him for it.

But I was never held in suspense. The author also puts forward the idea that death is not the end, and that whatever someone was or wished to be in life, he or she continues to be in death, within the restraints that death imposes. Started reading this during a prolonged reading funk and this was interesting enough to finish. A new to me series that's awesome! I remember this book cover from my childhood as scary, then from my adolescence as a want-to-read, and now here I sit, too many years later, finally having read the legendary Necroscope. Vampires in Lumley's novels are most often bisexual to some extent and frequently engage in various forms of incest and abuse with their offspring either by blood or by egg. I'm puzzled. Lumley's depiction of the latter as ancient alien parasites is particularly chilling and wholly unique. The sudden introduction and mastery of the Mobius gates. Ah, the 80's horrors I am officially calling it quits on this book.
