I'm Paula Brennan. January 7,
I am deeply passionate about body confidence and how I want women to reconnect positively with their bodies. I am overwhelmed on a daily basis with beautiful messages from women who have had a light bulb moment or, just started to be kinder to themselves. I love working with small business and helping female retail business owners connect with women who are looking for a more positive online shopping experience. A Queensland mother is helping tens of thousands of women right across the country, if not the world, navigate the frustrating world of online clothes shopping, through her unique Instagram page. Natalie Angel struggled to find clothes that fit her properly after having her son. She went shopping for clothes online and like many other women, quickly became frustrated with sizing. With the average Australian woman currently a size 14 to 16, she decided it was time to show off clothes on a more realistic body frame - and that's where Let Me Try Before You Buy was born. She tries the garments on for the first time in the video to give an authentic review, offering sizing recommendations and style tips. While brands pay a flat fee for their garments to be shown, they have no say in what Ms Angel says about the clothes. Owner Ann Cashmore said social media has revolutionised the way she advertises her business. Marketing expert, Associate Professor Jana Bowden from Macquarie University said consumers want real reviews and from women they can relate to, not just a size eight model, and brands need to realise that. Then, I had a baby… ohhh, boy. After a traumatic emergency C-section not exactly the homebirth I was hoping for! None of my old clothes fit me and I wanted to hide under a rock. I desperately searched online for fashion brands that had styles and sizes that would suit me. But how on earth was I meant to find anything suitable when every model I saw was wearing a size 6 or 8? After struggling with motherhood and my body for months, I hired a personal trainer. I thought that getting my old body back would solve all my problems.
Everyday Aussie mum Natalie Angel has turned her natural flair for fashion into a business opportunity after her realistic try-on videos on Instagram amassed her a following of more than , women who soak up her every word. The mum-of-one from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland , started her page ' Let Me Try Before You Buy' 18 months ago after noticing a 'huge gap in the market for honest feedback' for clothing that is inclusive of sizes 16 and beyond. Natalie, 41, sat down with FEMAIL and explained that while the average Australian woman is between sizes 14 and 16, few honest reviews exist online for them. Since there is no standard size guide in Australia, Natalie often felt blinded and frustrated shopping for clothes online that fit correctly. So, the personable mum decided to 'give it a go' herself and began sharing videos of herself trying clothes on online to help women find the perfect fit. Her brand now has a strong, engaged following and companies almost always sell-out immediately after appearing in one of her 'try-on' videos. Fashion industry urged to embrace 'authentic' marketing to survive tough economic times. Nat Angel is 40, a size 16 and has thousands of women peer into her bedroom while she strips down to her knickers trying on clothes for fashion labels. That's because the Sunshine Coast woman is a social media influencer leading a new wave of "authentic" fashion marketing. She tries on clothes in her bedroom to show the fit and feel of garments and posts the vision with honest commentary on her Let Me Try Before You Buy groups on Instagram and Facebook. Fashion labels pay her a flat fee to do this — not a commission — and have no control over what she says. Jana Bowden, an associate professor of marketing at Macquarie University, warned that the fashion industry needed to be more authentic with consumers in order to survive the current economic climate.
