Nancy Drew unexpectedly finds herself in Salem, Massachusetts investigating an arson on the Hathorne estate. The Hathorne House was originally constructed by Judge John Hathorne, inquisitor of the infamous Salem witch trials and the final home to year-old Frances Tuttle, his last direct descendant. When Tuttle passed away, the estate became city property and while the mayor was seeking a manager to oversee the estate the home burst into flames. The ongoing investigation has turned up little evidence but concerned citizens have accused Mei Parry of arson and are pressuring the police to arrest the secretive teenager. Are the ghosts real?

Getting into the car at the Parry house will automatically transport us to downtown Salem, where the rest of our characters can be found. Straight ahead, we see the courthouse, where a bunch of protestors have set up. I like the people walking around in this area a lot — it adds a lot of life to the game and you can even click on them to hear snatches of NPC dialogue about the protests and hauntings. Anyway, as we walk, we get a text from Teegan. She apologizes for flipping on us slightly when we met, and invites us to come meet her at the museum. Then she adds that if anyone wants to know about witches, they can buy a ticket for her self-guided walking tour! She asks if anyone in the audience wants to be a witch, which is a prime opportunity to step forward and start interrogating her. Okay, hee. She says she already spoke to the police, and she was out of town the night of the fire. Ever since then, Salem has seen an increased amount of spectral activity.

Then she adds that if anyone wants to know about witches, they can buy a ticket for her self-guided walking tour! You can't do this, unless you've examined the laurel in the mirror.

Originally announced in May at the end of Sea of Darkness , the game was initially set to be released in Fall However, in August , Her Interactive announced the game would be delayed to revamp the series under the Unity engine.
