Both units are wrapped in cold hard metal and feel plenty weighty enough for this sort of interface. They have decent feet to prevent them from being pulled off the desk by the weight of your cables and the knobs have a good feel to them with grippy surfaces. What you are drawn to is the displays — they're rather nice. Installation requires a driver from the MOTU website, where you'll also find a bundle of software and loops including a lite version of their own Digital Performer software. It's a small point, but there are so few bad things I can say about these interfaces that I have to make a meal of the ones I find. They also have their own Monitor button to enable direct monitoring. So you could monitor vocals directly through the interface on input 1 while running your guitar through virtual amp modelling software on input 2.

Throughout my career, I have worked with a myriad of different audio interfaces and other gear, from Focusrite, Neve, Universal Audio, and more. The displays are full-color LEDs, allowing you to gauge levels with a fair amount of accuracy. For this price point, the Motu M2 offers one of the best performances in terms of recording quality. The DAC is quite good, and the unit handles latency incredibly well. The audio resolution goes up to kHz, and the unit is quoted as having a dB dynamic range. The preamps are high-quality, and emit little to no noise. If you want a better performance, your best bet is to do some research and invest in a quality external preamp.
This includes your microphones and studio monitors.

The M2 offers more flexibility and a better user experience than your average entry-level audio interface. To the right is an LCD screen. This screen displays the levels for each input and the main output. We like how the gain knobs and input controls are directly next to each input. This layout makes the M2 easy to navigate without overthinking. Finally, the large volume knob is a bonus. We prefer this knob to be as large as possible since we use it the most. With the M2, you can record at a bit depth of bit floating-point and a sample rate of up to kHz. It has a round-trip latency as low as 1ms at a kHz sample rate and 64 sample buffer size.

The Volt 2 is a fairly solid interface to consider, especially for those interested in having more flexibility with the performance of your preamps. Loopback facility. The levels are coloured as any other led level meter and with a clear clipping indicator. The M4 and M2 are thoughtfully produced audio interfaces that go further and tick more boxes than anything else in their class. Dec 2, Kixooo. Normally engaging an instrument button raises the gain and impedance to match an instrument like an electric guitar, which needs more of a boost than a keyboard or other audio gear. The playing of virtual instruments was excellent, even up to and samples. Replies 2 Views So to my honest conclusion bare in mind this is solely my personal conclusion on the basis of the above observations : MOTU M4 is a good interface. Rather, they are meant to provide a nice coloration of the sound, one that can please the wideast variety of music creators.

Should I be concerned with these things, or should I just order it and don't think? The DAC is quite good, and the unit handles latency incredibly well. Reviews don't matter, at least not for the most part. Dec 9, b The M2 and M4 are no exception. Audio interface for listening music. This is a good place to mention the displays. I vastly prefer it to the multi box situation I had before, for controlling headphones and monitors at a computer.
