He then pulled some of my grandfather's old fishing gear out and said that wanted me to have it. There was a couple of old rods that looked the worse for wear but one of them had on it an old Garcia Mitchell surf reel. Aside from some oxidization on the chrome and the need for a good cleaning and greasing, it is in almost perfect condition. Not that I plan on selling it or anything, but do any of you have any idea if it is worth anything? The reason I ask is that I am thinking of cleaning it up and using it but don't want to wreck it if it has some value other that sentimental. Photos below.
Penn and DAM were more rugged but not quite so user friendly, mechanically simple but somehow still more difficult to service, mitchell 306. This one looks to be so
Back in March we posted a piece about a reel that generated a lot of comments on Facebook and through direct messages. It seemed a lot of the readers were upset that I had chosen the Zebco Cardinal series as the reel of the decade for the s. Readers wrote in that the French made, Garcia Mitchell series of reels was by far superior to the Swedish reel and how could I think such a dastardly thought. For one, on some of their models the bail went backwards of all other reels. This may not seem like a problem but imagine this. In my youth, I worked at a tackle shop, and we had a big business spooling new line on reels.

Mitchell is another one i own, ,, and lastly the and light reel for FW fishing. These have a unique plastic fastener from the rotor to the main housing. Brake system was in pretty good shape. Recent Comments. Minor differences on the pinion and rotor assembly is about it. This may not seem like a problem but imagine this. Recall that handi2 Keith new these reels well. I've had mine snap shut in the middle of a cast, a couple of times. They held yards of 8-pound line making them more of a freshwater reel. These were saltwater reels, and their line capacities show. When are you going to be a dad? Sooner or later I'll find the right crank and give the reel a overhaul.
