At almost 6 metres long and decked out with its very own axe, the hotly anticipated Project Maybach is finally here. Mercedes-Benz today officially launched its coupe concept in honor of fashion designer Virgil Abloh , who died from cancer in November last year. Designed before his death, Abloh — who was the creative genius behind fashion giant Off-White — worked with Mercedes to make the 2-seater battery-electric coupe. Built from scratch, it has eight spotlights, massive off-road tires, a roof rack and a full external roll cage. The concept is completely electric and comes with a solar panel under the transparent front hood of the car. Now Mercedes-Benz is paying tribute to Abloh, who died Sunday at age 41 of cancer, by unveiling the Project Maybach concept. The stunning show car was designed under the guidance of Abloh—who founded the design company Off-White and headed Louis Vuitton's menswear division—and Mercedes's chief design officer, Gorden Wagener. While the concept's long-hood proportions evoke the Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept from , Mercedes says that every piece of the Project Maybach, which stretches nearly 20 feet in length, was built from scratch. The electric coupe is decked out for off-roading, with thick, knobby all-terrain tires and an exterior roll cage sprouting up and over the cabin. There are also tough metal skid plates at the front and rear and body cladding with exposed rivets over the wheel wells.

Now Mercedes has revealed what it calls the "final chapter" of Abloh and Wagener's partnership, the Mercedes-Maybach S by Virgil Abloh, the design of which was finalized prior to Abloh's passing. Essentially a highly customized Mercedes-Maybach S, Abloh and Wagener's creation is finished with a two-tone paint job akin to the one found on the Project Maybach concept car. The upper section is painted Obsidian Black while the bottom of the car, including the monoblock wheels, is coated in a tan shade. The same two-tone scheme appears inside, with sand-colored nappa leather accented by black trim on the doors, center console, and steering wheel. Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logos adorn the center console, rear cushions, headrests, and doorsills. Mercedes says that even the infotainment system has been customized—the home button has a matching tan color and a logo marking the limited edition. There are also available profile pictures for the screen featuring fashion accessories.
