In it, there is a night which is better than a thousand months, and whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived. Ramadan is that time of year when all of us strive to get close to Allah SWT through our acts of abstaining from food, exercising self-restraint, bridging social divides, giving Sadaqah and Zakat Islamic charity and asking for forgiveness and mercy. The fourth pillar of Islam is Sawm, or fasting. During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are expected to fast from dawn to dusk. While there are exceptions made for the sick, elderly, and pregnant, all are expected to refrain from eating and drinking during daylight hours. The five pillars of Islam guide a Muslim to live an ideal life. Give Sadaqah every day to help those in need, especially in the last 10 nights. Ensure that your iftar includes healthy and nutritious options, with an increased intake of fruits and vegetables. Avoid fried food in iftar. Enjoy a well-balanced sehri with a combination of foods, like a bowl of whole-grain cereal, low-fat milk, and a topping of fruit and nuts—a perfect go-to.
