Matlab plot function

The plot function in Matlab is used to create a graphical representation of some data. It is often very easy to "see" a trend in data when plotted, and very difficult when just looking at the raw numbers. The plot function usually takes two arguments but can take one. The first is the X values of the points to plot, and the second is the Y value of the points to plot. In the case of a single argument, the X axis becomes 1,2,3,4, Notice that plot will "connect the dots" for you, drawing lines between each set of X,Y values. If you have a single array that you wish to plot, and don't really care about the X axis, you just want to see the values plotted in the Y axis, you can pass a single array to the plot function.

To set options for individual lines, use the objects returned by fplot. Use the object to query and modify properties of a specific line. Plot tan x over the default range [-5 5]. You can plot multiple lines either by passing the inputs as a vector or by using hold on to successively plot on the same figure. If you specify LineSpec and Name-Value arguments, they apply to all lines. To set options for individual plots, use the function handles returned by fplot. Divide a figure into two subplots using subplot.
Typically, this vector is the same length as the number of variables, but you can omit trailing 0 or false values.

Graphical capabilities of MATLAB include plotting tools, standard plotting functions, graphic manipulation and data exploration tools, and tools for printing and exporting graphics to standard formats. Plot the symbolic expression sin 6 x by using fplot. Plot the symbolic expression sin 6 t in polar coordinates. As an alternative to plotting expressions symbolically, you can substitute symbolic variables with numeric values by using subs. In the following expressions u and v , substitute the symbolic variables x and y with the numeric values defined by meshgrid. Plot several functions on one graph by adding the functions sequentially.
Remember, most cliches are cliches because there is a hint of truth in them. MATLAB has robust plotting and graphing capabilities and can generate plots in very few lines of code. Unlike Excel, there is very little in terms of buttons or menus that you have to navigate. Instead with MATLAB, you need to remember a few lines of code but in the end, it is much faster and much more flexible in generating your plots. When you are following along with this chapter, make notes and comments to that script so that you can refer to it later and what you have learned. We will remember everything we learned in Chapter 5 and in addition will learn:. Remember, the philosophy of this book is that diving in and getting your hands dirty metaphorically at least is good for learning! The goal of a tensile test is usually to determine the materials elastic modulus.

Then, add a title and label the x -axis and y -axis. Plot the symbolic expression sin 6 t in polar coordinates. Matrix Operations. If fplot is used with a function handle to a named or anonymous function that is not a symbolic expression or function , then the MATLAB fplot function is called. When you specify your data as a table, the axis labels and the legend if present are automatically labeled using the table variable names. For example, if we knew there were 40 hours in the week, we could use a pie chart to show how many hours were spent on study, sleep, play, etc. Specify the color of the plotted lines as blue using 'b'. If you specify "auto" and the axes plot box is invisible, the marker fill color is the color of the figure. Search MathWorks.
