Sheik debuted in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time , claiming to be one of the last surviving Sheikah and aiding Link by teaching him warp songs. In actuality, however, Sheik is the magically-induced alter ego of Princess Zelda. Contrasting with Impa , the only other Sheikah seen in the game, Sheik's identity and voice are concealed with conservative clothing and a scarf. Sheik first appears before Link soon after his spirit is unsealed after being contained within the Chamber of Sages for seven years. Upon meeting Link, Sheik reveals to him his true quest: he is now old enough to properly become the Hero of Time , and now that he has acquired the Light Medallion from Rauru , the Sage of Light, he must also awaken five other Sages and acquire their respective Medallions in order to become powerful enough to stop Ganondorf and save Hyrule. Following this, Sheik appears before Link at various instances to teach him warp songs to help him on his quest.

Sheik is a character from Ocarina of Time that was said to be a Sheikah , a familiar species in The Legend of Zelda games. Sheik is a mysterious character who first appears before Link when he wakes from his seven-year slumber in the Temple of Time. They presents themselves as a member of the Sheikah race, having spent the last seven years during Link's absence spying on Ganondorf and aiding the resistance against him, including freeing Ruto when she was frozen in Zora's Domain. When they approach Link upon waking, Sheik confirms that Link is indeed the Hero of Time and informs him that he must awaken the five remaining Sages in order to defeat Ganondorf. They point Link towards the Forest Temple in a deep forest , also telling him he must first retrieve an item in Kakariko Village. They also block access to the Pedestal of Time until the Forest Medallion is obtained. From that point on, Sheik often appears right before Link enters a Temple in order to teach him the warp songs associated with each Temple. Once Ruto is awoken as a Sage there, she asks Link to thank Sheik for saving her, and Sheik proceeds to appear just as Link exits the Temple to acknowledge the thanks and congratulate him, before slipping away again. When next they appear, it is in a Kakariko Village aflame, attempting to prevent Bongo Bongo 's spirit from escaping the Well. Both Sheik and Link are tossed around and easily defeated by the monster, who flees to the Shadow Temple.

Spoiler warning : Plot or ending details follow. Sheik serves as Princess Zelda 's alter ego in the game; to escape Ganondorf 's capture, Zelda passes herself off as a male Sheikah known as Sheik. Throughout the course of the game, Sheik aids Link , who is initially not privy to Sheik's true identity, by providing him with information and teaching him teleportation songs with a lyre. Sheik's physical appearance and frequent usage of Deku Nuts as a means to vanish quickly is decidedly reminiscent of a typical ninja. Possibly owing to this, Sheik has become a popular character in The Legend of Zelda mythos, despite currently appearing only in one game out of the main series. Sheik uses his Harp to teach Link several Warping Songs throughout the game. Sheik reveals himself to Link shortly after Link is freed from the Chamber of Sages after his seven-year slumber. He tells Link about the songs for Warping that can access Temple entrances and teaches him the Minuet of Forest before disappearing again. Sheik once again mysteriously appears in the Ice Cavern to inform Link of the fate of the Zoras and to teach him the " Serenade of Water ". When Kakariko Village comes under attack from a mysterious force, Link discovers that Sheik is already there. Together they encounter and are defeated by an invisible monster thought to be the Evil Shadow Spirit. At the entrance of the Spirit Temple , Sheik appears to have been waiting for Link from atop a large rock formation and once again informs him that he must enter the Temple as a child, utilizing the Pedestal of the Master Sword in the Temple of Time.

After awakening Saria as the Sage of Forest, Link returns to the Temple of Time, where Sheik informs Link that the Master Sword that he holds can be used to travel back in time seven years, when he was a child.
