Lone survivor lies

Reply to Topic. First of all let me say that I like Lone Survivor as a movie, it is one of the better war movies of the War on Terror era, I have watched it several times BUT I have come to believe that particularly the beginning of the operation is a pack of lies, lone survivor lies, basically a piece of propaganda designed to cover up a botched operation and protect the reputation or mystique of US special forces. What I think did lone survivor lies happen -Being discovered by a Shepard by him standing on their foot, just the odds of them even being discovered in a supposedly concealed position are remote but having one actually stand on his foot is borderline ridiculous.

Lone survivor lies

Directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg, Lone Survivor is a biographical war film and a retelling of a specific operation during the war in Afghanistan. The strong cast and talented director attached to the film allowed Lone Survivor to become one of the highest-grossing war movies of all time. Amid the heroic acts in Lone Survivor 's somewhat sensationalized narrative is a true story that is based on a nonfiction book. While not ranked among the best war films of all time , the film is a well-crafted, excellently performed, suitably tense, and exciting film. When concerning the true story on which Lone Survivor is based, it becomes even more unbelievable. This operation was highlighted by one of its combatants - Marcus Luttrell whom Mark Wahlberg portrayed in the movie - in the aforementioned book. The operation was a targeted strike against a man named Ahmad Shah by a team of Navy SEALs with the primary objective of gaining sufficient intel on the area and Shah's activities. The operation involved a team of four SEALs being fast-roped into the target area by a helicopter where they were expected to find Shah. However, Operation Red Wings went awry when the four SEALs were discovered, leading to a lengthy conflict that lasted around three weeks. Lone Survivor highlights Operation Red Wings from the beginning of the operation to its ending. Interestingly, one of the few historical inaccuracies of 's Lone Survivor is the listing of Ahmad Shah as a high-level al-Qaeda operative.

Hopefully the true story comes out and its mainstream.

This first appeared in The Havok Journal on March 23, Lone Survivor was eventually made into a major motion picture, but that, too, generated significant controversy. I sat with my father in late December watching the UFC fights. This was not the first interview that I had watched where both Marcus and the director touted the extreme attention to detail and accuracy that they sought when making the film. Far too often Hollywood has a tendency to sensationalize stories in an effort to sell more tickets so I was anxiously awaiting a highly accurate portrayal of the entire mission and those involved. To my dismay, that is not what I got.

Laden with weapons and gear, Petty Officer Marcus Luttrell grasped the rope dangling from the rear of the Chinook transport helicopter and descended into the moonless night. Twenty feet down, his boots touched ground in the remote mountains of northeastern Afghanistan near the Pakistani border. The elite four-man team was searching for Ahmad Shah, a militia leader aligned with the Taliban, as part of a mission dubbed Operation Red Wings. Soaked by a cold rain, the quartet hiked for hours through the darkness as they struggled to keep their footings on the steep mountain ridges. The year-old Luttrell, a sniper and team medic, concealed himself under a felled tree when he suddenly heard soft footsteps. Looking up, he saw a turbaned man carrying an axe. The SEALs had been discovered. Not by enemy forces, however, but a local goat herder. Within moments, nearly goats with bells around their necks came jingling over the mountainside with another herder and a teenage boy.

Pixel art and 2D sidescrolling? At first glance, few styles of art or gameplay seem worse-suited to the survival-horror ambiance of Lone Survivor, yet good horror reveals the fear lurking in the midst of the familiar. True to form, indie developer Jasper Byrne's haunting tale upturns our ideas of what we should expect with such pixelated minimalism. Wrapped in the same aesthetic many of us still associate with early days of Mario and Zelda, Lone Survivor nevertheless manages to deliver survival horror experience on par with its richer cousins. I found it a compelling premise on the PC last year , but I've found it's especially potent on the Vita. Byrne's premise is a deceptively simple one, following a character known only as "You" as he ekes out a scavenger's existence among pulpy pink mutants. Clad in a surgical mask resembling a grin that would spook the Cheshire Cat, Mr. You's not without a touch of the creepy himself. Notes and fragmented voices over the radio hint that our nameless hero isn't really the "lone survivor" in his apartment complex, and thus the promise of companionship adds meaning to the constant scouring for food and flashlight batteries.

However, Murphy's exposed position saw him become an easy target for the attacking enemy and he was shot multiple times, dying shortly thereafter from his wounds despite succeeding in calling for help. I am stating my tactical opinion. After this, the story of Luttrell's survival against the oncoming wave of Taliban soldiers is remarkable. As Luttrell was dragging Dietz further down the mountain, he was fatally shot in the head. When concerning the true story on which Lone Survivor is based, it becomes even more unbelievable.

Lone Survivor is a film with a serious identity crisis. It is a biopic and a memorial, both ultimately cheapened by concessions to the action genre and an inability to fully humanize its characters. It depicts Operation Red Wings where, for their part, a four man SEAL team is tasked with locating and surveilling an enemy militia leader from a mountain in Afghanistan.

Share I can accept the reality of putting the "best face" on tragedy and telling people that someone killed on a mission "died directly engaging the enemy and taking the fight to them" even if the truth might be he was hopelessly pinned down and riddled with small arms fire. Shortly after Dietz was killed, Murphy scaled the mountain, leaving cover in favor of a clearing in order to get a signal on his satellite phone.
