One of the four Champions in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild , Mipha, is noted to have a very close relationship with the main protagonist, Link. Most interactions Link has within the main questline for Zora's Domain and The Divine Beast Vah Ruta are very telling of Mipha's feelings for the hero but, it is not always clear whether these feelings are reciprocated. However, there are some critical differences in the Japanese version of Link's Adventure Log and dialogue between characters that reveal much more about Link's opinion on the Zora champion. As the English version makes Mipha feel like a shallow love interest, the original Japanese version gives Mipha more depth of character and reveals Link's personal thoughts about her. Although it seems like many of Zelda 's Zora Princesses are in love with Link , Mipha shares a deep personal connection with the hero.

Mipha, like all members of her race, is a humanoid dolphin being half-human and half-fish. Her skin is scaly and of different shades of red and white and she has a fish fin on her head as hair. Mipha is shorter than the average Zora. She has a serene face, with thin red lips and yellow eyes. Originally she only wore jewelry and ornaments of Zora royalty, but after she officially became a Champion she began to wear a robe with the emblem of Hyrule. Although usually demure and introverted, Mipha can be courageous when needed and does whatever she can to assist Link and her allies in any way she can, especially in their battle to stop the Calamity Ganon 's return. Mipha is known to be extremely kind, treating both her people and strangers with equal kindness. Her cutscene in the Champions' Ballad shows that she was a nurturing elder sister to Sidon. Mipha is also known to be in love with Link, promising to heal him whenever and no matter how bad the wound may be.

The Zelda franchise has a history of featuring rich side characters, such as the Champions from Breath of the Wild. All four of them aided Link in his fight against Ganon, but Mipha might have had the tightest relationship with Link himself. In fact, Mipha's relationship with Link is often a big debate: was it strong friendship, or unrequited love? The Zora notably had rough relations with Hylians before the calamity, but Mipha still managed to befriend Link. Mipha admired Link's bravery, but she also found him to be a bit reckless.

Once they both became older, Link became Hyrule's champion and Mipha noticed his drastic change in personality; he was more grown up, more focused, and rarely spoke anymore. Mipha tried to ask him if something was wrong, to which he dismissed her. At some point, the two got into a fight with a Lynel, and Link tried to get Mipha to back off, but she refused.
