When I started this blog a decade ago, I wrote about my food memories and why I was doing it, here. Though not having written about restaurants for some time, it might be helpful for anyone new here for me to introduce lets go round again take that cover so you can hop onto the Richmond restaurant roadshow and see whether you want to stay.

Apologies for that, but for once we left home with no devices other than a phone. The box of padded envelopes which arrived when we were away sadly suffered the fate of being left outside our garage for three days, next to a leaky downpipe. Fortunately I saved most of them by lining them up along the radiators but for once the sometimes risky practice of leaving deliveries in the recycling bin might have been a better option. So, where did I go? There has been much development going on along the waterfront of late and it also has some of the most interesting visitor attractions in Scotland. The building itself is actually the most impressive thing about it however and so far the permanent collections are a bit sparse.

Although the pieces that comprised AWB in the early years have since splintered, Average White Band lives on with Onnie McIntyre and Alan Gorrie — original band members — still performing with zest, supported by the brilliant lead vocals of Brent Carter. As for the splinters, they have carved out splendid careers for themselves. Albums — and successful ones at that — have followed. Stewart remains the master of the live act. He even managed to get some of the largely middle aged audience out of their seats and dancing — no mean feat for a Thursday night in conservative Chelsea. Assisted in big dollops by a mercurial Adam Phillips on guitar, the ever genial Steve Pearce on bass, Ian Thomas on drums, Jim Watson on keyboards, plus a four-strong horn section led by Duncan the Duke of Montrose , Stewart confirmed that age has done little to wane his powers.
