A specialist on the Kray twins has penned a book on the gangster's stories which are often left untold. Jacky Hyams' new book - Vicious, Elegant Bastards - is on the infamous brothers who ran criminal activities from their mum's terraced cottage in the East End's Vallance Road in the s and 60s. My father was far too smart. But they kept my parents on their list for parties. All these things resonated through my childhood, but I didn't carry an interest into them when I left home.

Ronald Ronnie Kray 24 October — 17 March and Reginald Reggie Kray 24 October — 1 October were English organised crime figures, and identical twin brothers from Haggerston , who operated mostly in the East End of London from the late s until their arrest in With their gang, known as the Firm which was based in Bethnal Green , the Kray twins were involved in murder , armed robbery , arson , protection rackets , gambling and assaults. At their peak in the s, they gained a certain measure of celebrity status by mixing with prominent members of London society, being photographed by David Bailey and interviewed on television. The Krays were arrested on 8 May and convicted in as a result of the efforts of detectives led by Detective Superintendent Leonard "Nipper" Read. Each was sentenced to life imprisonment. Ronnie, upon being certified insane, was committed to Broadmoor Hospital in and remained there until his death on 17 March from a heart attack ; Reggie was released from prison on compassionate grounds in August , five weeks before he died of bladder cancer.

Yet in some way, I found myself drawn in by the allure as Twin gangster brothers. He kept all these in a small brown suitcase at his mother's house. The twins were always there for one another and even throughout their lives when one or the other left, it wouldn't be long before he came back. Their views of the business, partners and pretty much else are often clashing. She was so beautiful, so stunning.
