I really, kiryuin satsuki, really liked this show, and I want to talk about it, but the darn thing is just too weird to really fit into my conventional format. Satsuki Kiryuin was my favorite character in Kill la Kiryuin satsukiand I want to talk about why I think she works so well as a character, kiryuin satsuki, why the choices she makes are so interesting, and how they fit into some broader narrative archetypes and tropes that I really enjoy. Our protagonist, Ryuko Matoi, arrives at Honnouji looking for the person who murdered her father, and she has good reason to believe Kiryuin knows who that is.
She has absolute authority over the academy and is regarded with reverence by many of its residents. Satsuki is a tall and slim female with an angular face similar to her mother 's. She has the habit of perpetually frowning, although she does smile on rare occasions. Satsuki had long hair as a child, and while it was cut slightly shorter during her younger teen years, she grew it out later on. In Episode 25 , she cuts her formerly long hair to page-boy shoulder length style.

She has rather thick eyebrows and a rather large bust. At the end of the series she cuts her formerly long hair to shoulder length in page boy style. Satsuki is a stubborn and arrogant girl, and rules over her school with an iron fist. At first, she seems to care little about those she deems beneath her aside from the Student Council, and subjects them to harsh, even dangerous conditions. However, this is an extremist method to toughen the students up for the inevitable wars they will have to fight, though her rule still involves forces them into brutal discipline, squalorous conditions, and a fearful existence. However, despite her apparent cold-heartedness, she is shown to occasionally let her defenses down in the company of close friends and allies, where she will joke, converse, and bond with them. She trusts very few, but those she does trust see a more caring and approachable side, though she remains strict and arrogant. She is acrobatic and nimble, able to dodge incoming attacks and easily use kicks and punches to her advantage in combat.

Grew up Living… in Honnoji Academy, an elite school that her family owns, along with most of the surrounding land. Run like a military dictatorship, Honnoji is headed by Satsuki and the other members of the Student Council, who parcel out rewards and harsh punishment depending on student behavior. Among the rewards are economic wealth and Goku uniforms, clothes sown with Life Fibers that grant their wearers superhuman strength. Among the punishments?

Similar to her mother, Satsuki's presence is often accompanied by a glow of light that has been described by Uzu Sanageyama as "dazzling. Prideful to say the least, Satsuki is an extremely intelligent, calculating and patient young woman while simultaneously unwavering and iron-fisted. Satsuki refers to people as "pigs in human clothing", and justifies that the weak and foolish must be ruled. Due to her steadfast convictions, she also possesses a natural charisma and ability to lead others.

Wielding the Life Fiber severing blade Bakuzan and the fearsome Junketsu, Satsuki is a strong and flexible all-rounder with tools for nearly any situation on the battlefield. She can keep characters who excel at close quarters combat away with her projectiles or chase them down and smash them flat with her power. She possesses fantastic close range attacks a great array of projectiles with wide or tall hitboxes, ones that flat out home in on your target, or projectiles that curve around the stage. Her two central faults however are her low health stat, at 9, HP, and the overly generous amounts of meter she gives the opponent on hit. Satsuki will be forced back into neutral quite often with how much meter she gives the opponent, but her neutral and ability to unblockable her opponents is so strong she won't struggle much to get more hits in and take out the opponent, death by a thousand cuts style. While the two are able to semi-synchronize, Satsuki is not able to gain full access to Senketsu's abilities, and is more working with Senketsu as partners as opposed to one being. As opposed to Nudist Beach who put up a fight despite have no Goku Uniforms to use. She planned on avenging her death, their father's death, and stopping Ragyo's ultimate goal with the Life Fibers. Kill la Kill. She does not wear a Goku Uniform, stating that her sword, "Bakuzan" is more than enough power and protection, though she eventually starts wearing a Kamui, "Junketsu". She also shows respect and even kindness to those who prove their strength and resolve. At the end of the day, this ideology always came second to her goals if it interfered, and later she realizes that this ideology was wrong in the first place, making her no different than Ragyo. And at the ending, after Ragyo has been defeated for good, she's cut her hair and is shown to highly resemble her sister, Ryuko. In episode 17, it's revealed she is definitively the Blue Oni to Ryuko's Red, since she made herself the bad guy to help the Red Oni , just like the original Japanese folktale. However, Junketsu is recovered by Satsuki in episode 22 and the two bitterly face off numerous times later on. During episode 18 , Ragyo inflicts a brutal one on her, reducing Satsuki to a bloody, broken husk of her former self. Soroi has served as Satsuki's personal butler ever since her childhood, and as such, they developed a strong bond.
