Joie are pioneers of multi-stage car seats and a leader in the market, with the popular Joie Stages and Joie Every Stage seats being the most similar to the Stages FX. It places well within the multi-stage car seat category — I can see the Stages FX being a popular choice over both the Joie Stages and Joie Every Stage as it seems to hit a sweet spot in terms of price point and longevity. The Joie Stages FX can be used from birth up until age 7. I tested it with my 2-year-old, who is big for his age and already in size clothes. I fitted the car seat with the integrated Isofix, which was easy. I fitted my seat forward-facing for my toddler, as this is what he is used to.

Otherwise known as the ECE R safety regulation , the new rule due to come into force in requires children to sit rear-facing until they are at least months-old, surpassing the old regulation age cap by a full seven months. The first car seat manufacturer to create a UK government certified i-Size car seat was Joie, with its i-Anchor , released earlier this year. Following on from its groundbreaking chair, Joie has produced the Stages car seat, which can be used rear-facing until your child is four-years-old or 18kg, well over the legal requirement. Rearward facing car seats are known to be five times safer than forward facing seats in a frontal collision. So being able to keep your child rearward facing for longer is a big plus for any parent concerned about motor saftey. High accolades indeed, but is the Stages really a joy to behold? Yes and no! The instruction booklet has the wording a few pages ahead of the diagrams, which involved repeatedly flitting between them. So it took me a little while, but I eventually got my head around them! But remember, here at MFM we always think it's better to get an expert to show you how to safely install a car seat in your vehicle before you buy it. Yes, it's light enough to be carried with one hand and move from one car to the other, but bulky enough to make that leg-bangingly awkward. Installing it rear-facing and reclined was a bit of a squeeze not great if the person sitting in the front seat wants lots of leg room. Forward-facing it was much easier.

With six recline positions — two rear-facing and four forward-facing, and with plush, deluxe cushioning and fabrics, you can be sure your little one is travelling in comfort whether they want to relax and nap or sit up and watch the world go by. Kirsty: I would recommend it because I believe it to be one of the safest car seats on the market. Safety is very important to me. It is also extremely easy to install. I used to go for Isofix seats because I believed they were safer but after doing a lot of research I now realise that when installing safely there is no difference so I would go for this x over. I wish I had this seat from birth. Hannah: I would thoroughly recommend it but be prepared to spend time getting the fit just right and practising with the straps and headrest height — just for your own sense of reassurance. My only other gripe is that when the seat is rearward-facing it juts back quite far, not leaving much space, if any, between it and the front seat. Add to compare. We have recently upgraded our car seat to the Joie Every Stage fx. Last week Erin turned four, and having been through quite a growth spurt both in height and weight, was rapidly growing out of her existing car seat. In recent months, we also started to have some concerns about her Harry Houdini capabilities, as she had learned to press the release button on her five point harness and took great pleasure in doing so at the most inappropriate of moments!
