I have no idea about that history of the tractor beyond the fact that it seems to be in good condition and has hours on it. I have been running it with the mower for a number of weeks with no problems until the other day I experienced power issues where the tractor would suddenly lose power, almost to the point of stalling for a number of minutes then rev back up to full power for a few seconds then lose power again. From that point on this would be a continued occurrence up until the present. Yesterday I decided enough was enough so I pulled the fuel line off to check the flow, all seemed to be good, and then I replaced the fuel filter. Since I am not mechanically inclined I was basing all of my repairs off of seemingly relevant videos I have researched off the web. Since replacing the fuel filter the tractor no longer starts. I understood that I had to remove the air from the fuel system so I filled the filter with diesel before replacing and then attempted to bleed the screws above the filter and this is where I ran into other issues. When I loosed both screws no diesel came out. I then made sure the tank was full and tried again. I read on other forums that some JDs had a manual fuel pump that could get the fuel moving in the lines but I haven't been able to find such a thing.
If it will not go out, maybe it will go in I ended up pushing it in with the loader. Drain stale or improper fuel and refill the tank with correct grade fuel.

Back in the summer time my dad was working the machine exceptionally hard and had it stood up quite a bit pushing a stump well when it come down it just stalled. The users also vouched for its durability. This is the latest. If it is turning over and not firing, are you sure you have fuel. Turn on the tractor lights. The cooling fins can also get clogged. Deereman Senior Member. I'd be having a look at the valve action while cranking to make sure there all moving! Makes me wonder how much was actually serviced and what was just looked at. For the oil to be that low it has been neglected or else it uses or leaks engine oil right heavy. Do not miss changing the hyd oil and most likely the transmission oil being the same. I have been running it with the mower for a number of weeks with no problems until the other day I experienced power issues where the tractor would suddenly lose power, almost to the point of stalling for a number of minutes then rev back up to full power for a few seconds then lose power again. Found the reason for the tractor not starting, it ended up being the ignition switch. Once I get the switch installed I guess it's on to the next set of problems to troubleshoot. So check the filter and clean it.
It to me is boring.
