Lebanese shoe designer Jennifer Chamandi is looking towards a glamorous future. While the women of the world may be living in sneakers or slippers, Lebanese designer Jennifer Chamandi is defiantly vouching for stilettos. They made me feel more powerful and confident. Her namesake brand was born in and is best defined as classic with edge. To me, the stiletto is the ultimate classic shoe, elegant and universally flattering — the Little Black Dress of shoes. Waging her love of number crunching with a more creative career as a shoe designer, Jennifer Chamandi set up her eponymous label in Following nine months of prototyping and manufacturing innovations, it was perhaps no great surprise that such a technically complicated shoe which incorporates a gold-plated eyedrop-shaped hole carved and inlaid into the heel could only be made in one place; Parabiago, Italy — a small village where both Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik also produce their teetering heels. We met with Jennifer to discuss those razor-sharp stilettos, design with an academic approach and some of her favourite Lebanese pit stops. The Lebanese women are very fashion forward but still focus on silhouette and style, and appreciate good quality and design when they see it.

Designer Jennifer Chamandi on leaving finance for fashion and why her partnership with Browns was a game changer. While holding down her full-time gig, she dedicated her weekends to learning to intricacies of footwear design, and when her dream factory in Italy refused to see her, she hired an Italian teacher, learnt every day and flew to Italy four months later, presenting her business plan in fluent Italian.
