Ivarstead is a small town located in the Rift that the Dragonborn has to pass through on their ivarstead to meet the Greybeards. Although Ivarstead doesn't have many notable characters or side quests, there are still a bunch of small discoveries that can be made in ivarstead town if it is explored to its full extent, ivarstead, ivarstead.

While the game indicates it is a village in decline due to fewer and fewer visitors coming through, it's very clear that those who are in the inn now are permanent residents to the village who have fairly strong ties they can't just cut. Since it would have been lame to throw down a bunch of empty or destroyed properties, it felt only right that 3 new houses should be built for those residents to occupy. He can be married at that point and you can move in with him if you wish.

Ivarstead also known as Hillgrund's Steading [1] is a small milling town, situated at the eastern base of the Throat of the World , on the western edge of the Rift , built on the western shore of Lake Geir. Pilgrims and travelers often pass through, as the town is located at the beginning of the 7, Steps to High Hrothgar. During the reign of Jarl Gjalund of Whiterun , it was part of Whiterun Hold and exported grain, mead, and honey. Both were slain, and both were interred in Geirmund's Hall , on a small island in the lake east of the town. Lake Geir, east of the town. It serves as a rest stop for pilgrims before they make the journey up the Seven Thousand Steps to High Hrothgar. Ivarstead is roughly halfway between Riften and Whiterun. Despite its distance, it is still within the Rift and is therefore governed by Riften, indicated by the Hold Guards wearing Rift-aligned armor and shields. It is, in fact, the only town in Skyrim that is not along a major road travelling between two Hold capitals. The citizens are often heard complaining about how they want to leave Ivarstead, as there is little to do there. Apart from buying and selling food at the inn, no merchants are available in Ivarstead. If fast travel is not an option or not desired, the quartermaster at the Rift Imperial Camp due south of town or, alternatively, the Rift Stormcloak Camp due east of town across the lake is the closest resupply point.

While talking to the innkeeper, he reveals that Narfi's sister went missing and never returned, which is why Narfi is so distraught.
