Father Silverudd, obsessed with the genetics of chickens, developed a number of different chicken breeds, including the 55 Flowery Hen, the Molilja, the Queen Sylvia and the Isbar. His goal in creating new auto-sexing chicken breeds that laid an abundant amount of unique colored eggs. He is very well respected in chicken genetic circles and his protocols are still being used today in universities and breeding programs. Feather Lover Farms flocks of Isbar are some of the last Isbar genetics that were imported from Sweden. There are a few varieties of Isbar including a deep blue, birchen and splash blue color. With the Isbar having blue genetics, this makes auto-sexing in chicks almost impossible and we can only offer them as unsexed day-old chicks. The Swedish Isbar also has the ability to put purple speckles over top of their green eggs making them an excellent layer for the daily egg collecting basket. We worked with this breed in the early years of our hatchery and had to put them on the back burner until we could find fresh genetics to mix with our line to ensure that robust and strong disease resistant chicks would hatch. In we found the fresh blood we were looking for and paired it with the original line of birds we had been carefully stewarding all those years.
