Greed mode is a new game mode introduced in the Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth expansion. The final boss in the mode is Ultra Greed , an ultra large version of the Greed enemy we know and love! The way the mode works is simple: You press a button in the main room and that spawns enemies in timed waves. Pressing the button once more will stop the waves from spawning, but will deal half a heart of damage to you. If you defeat a wave before the time runs out, it will automatically spawn a new wave. If you don't defeat the enemies before the time ends, the next wave will spawn anyways. Each time you start a new wave, the game will place some coins near the button.

Greed mode is a game mode introduced in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth. A Super Secret Room is also connected to one of the rooms. Up until the penultimate floor, an already unlocked Treasure Room with a silver door frame and a normal locked Treasure Room are also available. The silver Treasure Room always gives items from the Boss pool. The final seventh floor has no waves and contains only three rooms, the largest of which contains the game mode's final boss. As there are no normal drops in Greed mode, the Shop becomes Isaac's primary source of items and pickups. Shops in Greed mode automatically restock. There will also almost always be two Shopkeepers near the center of the room, as sometimes just one special shopkeeper spawns instead. The following room maps were made using Basement Renovator for cleaner viewing. These rooms always have a button in the center that, when pressed, bars all the doors and starts spawning waves of enemies and coins. While active, the button has a timer underneath it that counts down; when the timer runs out or all enemies in the current wave are killed, the next wave spawns. This continues until wave 8 or 10 is reached, Isaac dies, or Isaac presses the button again.

Every expansion to The Binding of Issac had a sort of theme to them. With Wrath of the Lamb, it was spiders. Spider enemies and some spider items, among other things. Rebirth gave us poop enemies. With Afterbirth came Greed stuff, after the Greed miniboss.

Greedier Mode is essentially a hard mode version of Greed Mode with some slight variations to the gameplay which I will cover below. Greed Mode sees you fight through ten to eleven waves of enemies including bosses over six floors until you reach the seventh floor where you face the end boss Ultra Greed. Each floor will consist of two Item Rooms one of which needs a key , a shop, a secret room, and a curse room. On each floor, you will step on a button in the middle of the room which will trigger the first of eight waves. A countdown timer will appear below the button which will now have spikes sticking out of it. At the beginning of each wave, you will see coins spawn above the button at the same time as enemies which you would normally find on the same floor in the main game mode. Once you either defeat a wave or the timer below the button reaches zero, the next wave begin which will spawn more and more coins the more waves that are consecutively fought.

All of the items in this pool can be found in the gold Treasure Room in Greed Mode. They can also occasionally be found in the Greed Mode Shop.

In my opinion greed mode is very fun. I've beat the game on Hard with everyone but The Lost and the new character you get from getting X coins into the Greed Machine. In Greed Mode, you can do an optional 11th wave after the two boss fights in order to open a Devil Room. A restock box, a devil beggar, a half red heart, and a Reward Plate behind spikes. I've never seen it there. As there are no normal drops in Greed mode, the Shop becomes Isaac's primary source of items and pickups. Be sure to not waste all of your money on the shops before the final room, because the main point of playing Greed Mode will be to deposit money into the Greed Machine at the end of the run. Every floor is the same, a central double room, with a extra large shop to the north, two item rooms to the east, a curse room that costs a heart to use to the west, and the locked exit to the south. So the basement floor is especially lethal, as you often fight tougher enemies than usual, and your one item is often not enough. If you have the Chaos Card, you can easily kill Ultra Greed by simply throwing it and it will reappear when you use the Glowing Hour Glass. Pressing the button again interrupts the next wave from spawning, but costs health to do so.
