Ngl, I feel betrayed of that ending. This book, overall, could have been a 4 stars but wtf was the ending? No bc I was so mad! It pissed me off bc I was enjoying the whole book but then the author decided to destroy the mmc I still love him lol —hence the 3. About the plot: Oraya grew up as a human girl in a world of vampires. She lives her life constantly in danger and her only chance to become something more than a prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself. To survive, she must forge an alliance with her rival: Raihn. But the most dangerous thing is their attraction for each other in a place where nothing is more deadly than love. My thoughts: First of all, why is the title so long…? It took me more time to memorize it than read the whole book wtf… The pace at first was kinda slow but then picks up and become faster. The writing is simple but the book is well written. As I said earlier, it's good overall. I really liked the whole storyline—it was interesting and intriguing. I'd never thought I'd like books about vampires but here I am I appreciated the tournament thing too, which is similar to Powerless by Lauren Roberts which I loved with all my heart.
Bravo, Carissa Broadbent, for this fantastic ending! I'm so captivated by the characters, the romance, this dark fantasy world, and the shocking ending that I will immediately be reading Book 2: The Ashes and the Star Cursed King.
Synopsis : The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself. But winning won't be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival. Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father's crown
Rescued by the Nightborn King, Victor, as a baby, Oraya has lived every moment of her life as a sheep among wolves, the only human in a court of vampires. Luckily, a chance to do just that arrives in the form of the Kejari, an ancient tournament with an incredible prize: a chance to request anything from the goddess Nyaxia. Raihn, a new vampire to the court, offers her an alliance, which Oraya cautiously accepts. But can Raihn be trusted as he and Oraya try to survive the trials of the Kejari? A yin-and-yang relationship slowly develops between the two as trust heals old wounds and their odds of winning the Kejari becomes more real. Broadbent uses the looming threat of a war between the vampire kingdoms to add heft, a decision which elevates the stakes of the tournament and grounds the story in a real crisis.
