This as you can imagine has done the engine the world of good and has taken the turbo with it for company. The engine sounds even more like an old tractor than it did before and the only warning I got about this was a warning saying Engine oil level critical for a second of so. I stopped the car checked the oil when it was cooled down and it was at the corect level on the dipstick. Car stated ok and no warning showing we made our way home but the car started to loose power 2 mile from home and we just made it back Engine sounded fine so I left it until the morning It started and sounded ok so it was recovered into a jaguar specialist not a million miles from me and he checked the car out. The Oil filter was full of iron particles which wasn't right and the car had developed a serious knock Cut a long story short the engine is a total loss and the car is in the process of having a new Jaguar engine fitted at a cost to myself. This is not the first ingenium engine I've known do this as my friends XE did the exact same and where my car is he says this is a problem he sees a lot of. My car was a Jaguar dealerships car and has got full service history and I always had it serviced with genuine parts but at an independant garage owned by a friend. Has anyone else had issues with the ingenium engine as Jaguar don't seem to think there's an issue with this engine,but timing chains snapping on 30, mile engines and tensioner and oil pumps packing in is a serious issue. Lets just say I won't be buying Jaguar or Land Rover again anytime soon and will be keeping this one for another year and getting shut while the engines still under jaguar warranty.

We commonly find vehicles with failed turbochargers, either as a result of engine failure or the direct cause of engine failure. The failure of this unit commonly causes an engine failure due to the intake of oil and possible debris. This unit is also rendered defective as a secondary result of engine failure. As you can see in the images we find that a common consequence of a failed turbocharger is bent conrods.

Till now I owned eight cars on my own, seven Japanese ones and one Swedish one. All of them had turbocharged engines because I was never a big fan of big natural aspirated engines. Due to the fact that I have no real priority between a left-hand or right-hand drive car so some of them were LHD and the other ones RHD. Three years ago I had my first encounter with a Jaguar XF and since that happened, I have the forcing demanded to own one by myself.

By monkie August 3, in International Forum. My boss has a D5 fitted with the Ingenium 2. Wondering if any can point us in the right direction of any known issues with top end knock. He had an issue recently where the engine would cut out but then restart and around the same time has a top end knocking noise that is getting more pronounced. Someone from a 4x4 specialist read fault codes nothing stored , suspected a turbo fault nothing , removed the injectors and sent away for testing apparently they check out okay but only mentioned spray pattern , no sign of a dropped valve. They are now saying ot could be a camshaft or balancer shaft issue. That sounds like a guess to me as the engine will run albeit with a knock. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm still wondering if any potential fuel system fault is sitting there undiagnosed.

Timing Failure The Ingenium engine commonly suffers from timing failure. We went for a test drive and he immediately detected one of the engine mounts was damaged. On a highway after hard accelaration the car suddenly lost power, took a while before a message saying performance was reduced but it was ok to drive slowly but then a LOT of smoke started getting out of the exhaust. It had a new engine at 25, miles due to poor compression on one cylinder, fortunately under warranty, but that's ridiculous for a high end vehicle. Travelled more than miles to Swansea. I know engines, have rebuilt a few myself - low compression on 1 cylinder generally doesn't cause a sudden loss of power like this. So the work end up being the chain version , the VVT pulley, the engine mount, an exhaust dampner and a full service took the oil with me. A failed turbo was identified as the cause of the problem, drawing oil from the engine, hence the catastrophic damage, so I got a new engine and turbo fitted under warranty, no quibbles. Kudos to Angela, she was a genuine pleasure to speak with and very knowledgeable of her stuff. In the end, the warranty company gave me the market value for the car and I went out an bought an XJ X 3. I'll copy you on more-frequent-than-recommended oil changes. Turbocharger consequence As you can see in the images we find that a common consequence of a failed turbocharger is bent conrods. The infotainment system has been nothing but trouble IMHO touchscreens are dangerous in cars and should be banned as basic vehicle functions cannot be operated in a tactile way with a switch Insert Quotes Quotes Post Reply.
