India men's national field hockey team represents India in international field hockey competitions, and is governed by Hockey India. The team was formerly under the control of Indian Hockey Federation. India was the first non-European team to be a part of the International Hockey Federation, indian mens hockey team.

Notable performances include the men's hockey team's gold medal in Hangzhou, the men's cricket team's victory in the ODI World Cup final, and the women's cricket team's maiden gold medal. Indian men's hockey vice-captain Hardik Singh believes the Asian Champions Trophy victory last year was a turning point for the team, leading to success at the Asian Games and direct qualification for the Paris Olympics. He is eager to defend the title in the upcoming tournament, citing the team's progress under coach Craig Fulton. Irrespective of the overall performance though, one player who has really stood out so far in Pro League is none other than PR Sreejesh. He helped the hosts finish on top in two penalty shoot-outs — first against the Netherlands and then against Spain. While Sreejesh was without doubt the best in the business when the team went to Tokyo, Krishan Bahadur Pathak has over the years gained experience and improved by leaps and bounds. The two after all always play alternate quarters in every match and Pathak has made a place for himself.

The India national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team of India. India is currently not ranked in the IIHF World Ranking and has not entered in any World Championship tournaments or at the Olympic Games , but they have only participated in the Challenge Cup of Asia , a regional tournament for lower-tier hockey nations in Asia. The history of ice hockey in India dates back almost years, when ice hockey was a favourite pastime for the British Raj in Shimla. In the early s, the Ladakh Scouts , a battalion of the Indian Army posted in the high border regions, took up the game. The high Changthang Plateau 's frozen streams and high altitude lakes make the region an ideal place to play ice hockey, and as a result, the game spread amongst the army. The game gained more widespread popularity exhibition matches began taking place in Leh in the winter. With little to do during the region's harsh winters, locals began to play on a small irrigation pond in Karzoo, Leh. Ice hockey gear was not and is still not available to buy in Ladakh. The few locals who have contacts outside Ladakh have requested friends to get ice hockey skates. The Ladakh Scouts are well equipped as they get their gear through the army. Due to the lack of accessible equipment, Ladakhis began to improvise, with the first teams obtaining ice skating blades from Shimla and nailing them to army ammunition boots. Roller skates and ground hockey sticks were also used. To create pucks, locals cut the thick, rubber heels of army boots into a rounded shape. Goalkeepers wore ground hockey pads but lacked helmets; neither helmets nor knee and elbow pads were used by other players.

The Indian men's hockey team mounted a fightback for the ages to beat Germany in the bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday, for their first hockey medal at the Games since , when they won the last of their eight Olympic gold medals. In all, it's India's third bronze and 12th medal at the Games, pulling them ahead of Germany as the country with the most medals in men's hockey. Australia and Belgium will fight it out for gold later on Thursday. India kept their calm after defensive errors had them trailing Germany at one stage in the first half. Germany were the quicker team off the blocks, making their intent clear with captain Florian Fuchs egging the team on to make one final push in the team huddle ahead of pushback. Their intensity found instant reward, as Timur Oruz found a stray ball, not cleared by a combination of Surender Kumar and Shamsher Singh right ahead of Sreejesh, and put Germany ahead in the second minute. India responded well, earning their first penalty corner PC two minutes later, but Rupinder Pal Singh had his drag flick closed down by the first rusher. India were able to maintain the single-goal deficit thanks to Sreejesh in the first quarter, though, as he closed down angles to ensure Niklas Wellen and Mats Grambusch didn't get clean shots on goal.
