There are some areas in the kitchen where we've got pipes that stick out and we've been told to go for a slightly wider worktop there. Some parts of the kitchen won't be affected by pipes at all and they've still listed mm depth worktops. Is there any reason why we couldn't go for a more standard mm depth worktop? You don't need a wider worktop for the parts with pipes because they leave a service area behind each cupboard for pipes etc? Haven't used ikea yet but every single kitchen we've bought and fitted has had these, think it's standard. Guess it depends on the type of pipes but we've always just amended the backs of cupboards. You def need a bit of overhang on the worktop because if you spilled something on the top or are trying to wipe off crumbs etc, the overhang will stop it going in your drawers and cupboards. Plus it looks better! They've prob specified to make it uniform. Also, if your walls are slightly out it could give you more scope to adjust if needed. Without seeing the plan it's difficult to say for certain! I'd suggest calling them but don't think ikea are that sort of store!!
