User Name Remember Me? August 13, , PM GeoLund. My snag is that the serial number does not have any letters, only numbers. It has either 5 numbers or possibly 6 numbers with the first two stamped on top of each other It has 9 cylinders, double action, 2. The hammer is flat on the back and the firing pin is built into the frame. It does NOT have an all-in-one cartridge ejection. It looks a lot like the gun pictured at this link. I would appreciate learning anything you can tell me about age and history. Thanks so much!!! Geolund: Your Model should have a letter I or J prefix to the serial number. It is obvious, by the overstrike of the numbers , that there was a malfunction in the serial numbering process and the finished and mis-numbered frame was assembled into a complete firearm.
Geo I'm attaching a pic of the serial number.

If so, then it only has 5 numbers which would make it really old, but that isn't consistent with the 2. Instead, he notes specific serial numbers many from my collection that have the specified features for that Model and Variation. Any help anyone can give would be great. Stevejet Replies. Reason: adding more info. Very good original condition,FWO. Some examples are seen with gold filling extant in the barrel stamping. Recommended Communities. It belonged to my Great Grandfather and I was told by my Mother that he carried it with him everywhere he went. Now the strange part, the serial number on the exposed part of the metal pistol grip frame looks like B but when the grip is removed the number usually covered by the grip on the same metal pistol grip frame looks to be ,?? So, what year was mine made, would it be a different version?
Additionally, the Model has a few more features that I personally really dig. In my opinion, the gun is one of the most practical and straightforward.
I have found a Gunsmith that says he can probably fix it, but there is a 3 month backlog and if he finds out the Pistol can't be fixed and it would still be dangerous to Fire, He legally can not return it to me. You can find the link to age them if you research a little. The is still seen around my local flea mkt. Log in. Mine is in Rough condition right now. I really appreciate your detailed information. It has 9 cylinders, double action, 2. There are no letters in the serial. Looked all over the frame and cannot find anything that would even resemble a SN was there. I don't have one. I don't know if it was blued or nickle because the finish is gone but seems to be in pretty solid condition. It is indeed a mystery! The Savage Model 3 -. The Wood Grip shows quite a bit of wear and the Cylinder just spins. It was exciting to see your serial number because it's the only one I've seen on the internet that's close to mine.
