Have you seen the classic The Neverending Story? Whether you have or not, there are so many reasons to snuggle up on the sofa and watch tonight. Together, Areyu and Artax go questing through Fantasia to find a remedy for the Empress, before the entirety of the realm succumbs to the malevolent force threatening to destroy it — The Nothing. Artax belongs to Atreyu, who is initially ridiculed for being just a child before boldly accepting the mission to search across the land for the cure with his beloved horse. Not long into their mission, Atreyu and Artax decide to enter the Swamp of Sadness. The swamp is a treacherous place with a lingering melancholy that threatens to take hold of those who pass through it and cause them to fatally sink into the bog. As he begins to sink, Atreyu grips the bridle and tries to coax him forward. However, as any equestrian knows, when a horse says no he means it. Despite desperate pleas from his human friend, Artax is gradually and helplessly lost to the swamp and Atreyu is left to continue his quest alone. For its sheer emotion and raw depiction of peril, the scene is arguably the most memorable in the film if not the entire fantasy genre. All is not lost, however.

The script was just amazing, and, even back then, it was imaginative, and I hadn't seen anything like it. I love that The NeverEnding Story has a message about not being limited by anything other than your dreams, horses name in the neverending story, dream big, and take chances. He gives advice to people when they have lost hope in many things they set out to do whether in a quest for what they seek or in some cases people and beings have given up altogether and lost faith.

First and foremost is "The Nothing" which threatens to devour and erase everything in existence if a young hero named Atreyu Noah Hathaway can't find a way to thwart it. If that obstacle wasn't enough, the dark force elicits the aid of a horrific sharp-fanged giant wolf monster with glowing eyes called Gmork who steadfastly shadows Atreyu in hopes to rip him to shreds. Early on in his quest, Atreyu and his trusty sidekick, a majestic white horse named Artex, are required to gain information from a giant turtle named Morla. To find Morla they must first travel through what is known as the Swamps of Sadness. Unfortunately, as one passes through said swamp they are taken over by depressive thoughts and hopelessness. Though Atreyu is at least partially protected by an amulet, Artex the horse succumbs to despair and begins to sink slowly into the mud. Atreyu almost laughs it off at first but then begins to realize his best friend may be beyond rallying. Atreyu desperately pleads with Artex to fight against the sadness that has overtaken him.

Gmork is the servant of the power behind the Nothing. The ceremony is interrupted by Atreyu, who is nearly killed by Bastian. To be able to affect people with something that you worked hard to be a part of that you put your blood, sweat, and tears into, is very special. In the second film, these creatures were called "Giants" because of their towering size and possess a horned crustacean-like appearance and lobster-like claws.
