He is the main reality version of Wish Hook. Hook is based on the character of the same name from the Peter Pan story, and the character of the same hook once upon a time from Disney film Peter Pan. When Killian is still a child, he boards a ship with his older brother Liam and his father Brennan to explore other worlds.

He appeared in the horror thriller film The Rite as a skeptical novice priest, Michael Kovak. He starred in Dolly Parton's Heartstrings as J. O'Donoghue's early career was mainly split between theatre and television work in Ireland and the UK. In , he appeared as Duke Philip of Bavaria in an episode of season 3 of the Showtime historical-fiction series The Tudors. He made his Hollywood film debut alongside Anthony Hopkins in the horror thriller film The Rite He plays guitar and sings in a band called The Enemies, formed in in Ireland. In December , O'Donoghue was cast in an episode of the Netflix anthology drama series, Heartstrings.

Once a respectable member of the King's Navy, Killian Jones eventually turned to piracy after finding out that his king was corrupt, and became pirate captain of the Jolly Roger. After Jones apparently takes a woman named Milah , her husband Rumplestiltskin confronts him but is too cowardly to do anything about it. Years later, after Rumplestiltskin becomes the Dark One , he sees Killian and his crew at a tavern and confronts him once again. He challenges Jones to a sword-fight, and uses his dark magic to win. Rumplestiltskin plans on ripping out Killian's heart, until he is confronted by Milah, who has become a pirate. Rumplestiltskin finds out that Killian and Milah are in love, and Milah went with him willingly, hoping to escape being the wife of a coward and explore. Milah offers Rumplestiltskin a magic bean in exchange for Killian and Milah's lives. However, when Rumplestiltskin angrily starts questioning her, asking her how she could abandon her own son, Milah bitterly replies that she wanted to escape her miserable life, and that she never loved Rumplestiltskin. Furious, Rumplestiltskin rips out Milah's heart and crushes it, killing her.

During the face-off, Hook is nearly drowned by Mr. They share a goodbye kiss, and he goes to chain himself down at the docks.

By the time the second season rolled around, however, the series decided to introduce Killian Jones, the pirate who would become Captain Hook. An utterly one note character for the entire second season, and even most of the third, Hook was rapidly given more and more importance in the narrative, no matter the fact that he never really fit in there. Hook was never made to be a sympathetic character — audiences were told he had changed, when in reality, the pirate was perhaps one of the least likely to change in the entire cast of characters. Being a criminal who takes lives is more or less a precondition for being a villain on Once Upon A Time. To be fair, Hook did try, on a few occasions, to change, and to make amends — certainly more than other villains such as The Evil Queen, Rumple, or Zelena ever did. However, without fail, every attempt at bettering himself fell short, revealing the ugly truth of his nature inside and consistently disappointing everyone around him, if not outright alienating them time and again.

Once Upon a Time is on its last legs, and so too is the cast. As the rain pours outside the Vancouver-based set, the cast has lost track of time filming in a giant green-screen room. The cast is unaware the cloud-covered sun has set outside as the scene changes. He makes his exit through a green-screen door. All these years later, Hook and Rumple are still intrinsically tied together, which is especially prevalent when it comes to the series finale. Are you ready to say goodbye to this character?
