Last Updated on 21 February by Colette Burgess. Last Friday night we were invited to visit our local Harvester to try out the most recent menu updates. Within easy reach of a large cinema and a bowling alley, it is well placed for an evening of family fun. She was in one of those moods where only Mummy would do so even when I tried to pass her to Dave for a minute, she was soon back on my knee! Dave went for a Mixed Grill which is a fairly standard choice for him. We all really enjoyed our meals with clear plates all round and just enough room for pudding! W e live in an age when much of the fiction we consume is purpose built to not add up. Part of the allure of such narratives is the participatory element: facilitated by social media and online fan forums, every reader and viewer who so desires has the chance to posit themselves as critic, theorist, prophet and de facto co-writer. In other respects, it is strikingly and enchantingly out of time. It is set in the late s, in those final few years before civilisation went permanently online. We are in the town of Nevada, Iowa; the main character is Jeremy Heldt, an unprepossessing video store clerk in his early 20s and an inveterate homebody. Jeremy seems like something of a slacker, but what looks like passivity is only the ceaseless forestalling of unprocessed grief. Jeremy lost his mother in a car crash as a teenager, and since then, he and his father Steve have remained in a kind of permanent holding pattern. Films are interrupted by brief bursts of inexplicable found footage: a hooded figure performs an unsettling quasi-dance in a barn; multiple people writhe indistinctly under a sack; an obscured woman runs away from the camera on a dark road.

Several times, since re-opening after the lockdown, following covid, I have visited The Crown Harvester, Bath Road, Longwell Green, Bristol and can honestly say that everyone I have gone with, on the different occasions, have had enjoyable meals and a safe eating experience. This was more scrubland with grubby, old picnic benches and a table with planks so warped that plates would not sit on it without rocking under the pressure of a knife and fork. I have only given 4 stars, not for the service but the food. However, we had Mike as our server and he was excellent. Written 29 June Come on Harvester, sort out your website! Today we visited the Durley Inn on the seafront in Bournemouth. The value has eroded severely over time - initially it was pretty much an all inclusive price, with a breakfast buffet included. I sent it back and was advised it will be 8 minutes but just over 15 mins later it came out and it was raw! The portion of peas was about the size of an egg cup.
