The Woman in the Turkmen Proverbs Abstract: Proverbs are communal products which orally carries the societies' traditions and customs, life views and experiences in certain patterns. Proverbs contain rich experiences in dealing with problems encountered in social life. Turkmen proverbs on women are important in the sense that they convey the value attributed to women and the beliefs, traditions , and customs concerning women. In Turkmen proverbs the women are mentioned according to the roles they take within the social life; such as mother, mother-in-law, girl, bride, mistress, old women, and woman of low virtue. In this study, the proverbs especially espousing the the mother and wife roles played by the women in the Turkmen society are investigated. Erdal Korkmaz.
