Earlier this month, Rockstar confirmed they'd be removing a number of songs from Grand Theft Auto IV due to the ten year licensing deal running out. Today, now that the update has gone live, we know what songs were removed. It's unfortunate, and it seems a lot more was removed than added, but unfortunately licensing deals that simply exist forever are not very feasible without paying a fortune for individual songs. At least Rockstar warned people this time, unlike with Vice City and San Andreas, which received abrupt patches changing music without forewarning. If you own the game already and don't want to get patched, you can avoid doing so on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox by not allowing the game to patch.

Rockstar will be helping the fans celebrate this momentous occasion by removing most of the licensed songs in the game with a mandatory patch. A large patch is expected to be launched for all versions of Grand Theft Auto that will disable access to most of the licensed tracks in the game. Rockstar's usage of licensed tracks within their Grand Theft Auto games always seem to be tied to ten-year-long agreements, as we have seen a similar situation in the past with the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The presence of the online modes in these games is what facilitates such changes, as nothing could be done with the older Grand Theft Auto titles. Fans can expect a similar event to happen in September , when the ten year anniversary of Grand Theft Auto V comes to pass.
