Our ranking differs from the PWI because we use math. Well, at least we try to. Just as we did before, we all submitted our own list of the top matches of all time, and each ranking represents points.

Professional wrestling has a long and extensive history of all time classic matches, and many of those have gained an impassioned following over the years. Whether it be the likes of WWE where matches are the most accessible or on occasion elsewhere across the wrestling world, there are some matches which fans return to more than others. There are a variety of reasons why fans come back to certain matches, with some of that coming down to sheer match quality, nostalgia, or even just one specific moment in the match which draws people back time and time again. Different fans will have different experiences, but these matches in particular will likely surpass all the rest in terms of those that have been re-watched the most. This will also look at different statistics from the matches in question, such as ratings from Cagematch.

Modern professional wrestling history can be whittled down to 50 matches. Fifty moments that combine to tell quite an entertaining story. Sure, not all of these matches are five-star classics, but each one has a place on the road to professional wrestling's present, a road that is paved with booms, busts, fantastic highs and epic lows. Along the way, there were matches that served to create an entire era, while others were instrumental in beginning a steady decline toward irrelevancy. Then there were those that were influential in popularizing a certain style of wrestling or a particular match type. Without any of these 50, history would be altered, and certain memories, moments and careers would cease to exist. Heck, professional wrestling could very well have died off altogether years ago without some of these matches taking place. The question I asked myself when deciding if a match was worthy of this list was, "if this match had never taken place, how would that have affected wrestling's narrative; would anything be dramatically different? That was the deciding factor. With that said, here are the 50 most important matches in wrestling history, aptly given in chronological order:. Rankings of the best anything are always tricky, definitely subjective, and absolutely a lot of fun. Consider lists of the best movie or TV series. Yes, there are a ton of each over the years. But in any given year, there are maybe dozens of movies to consider, and great TV shows tend to last for several years, even in the modern streaming age. WWE goes nonstop every tear, putting matches on Raw and SmackDown weekly and holding bigger premium live event cards monthly. Just narrowing that list of potential candidates down could be a Herculean effort, but we found a way to reduce the work and make the resulting list pseudo-scientific at the same time.
