I don't want to come across as one of those guys always bitching about the setlist. But I'm still a little disappointed that Bruce has decided to tour like this. But now it feels scripted, unspontanious and everyting that I am not used to from him and the band, greasy lake the circuit. And that disappoints me a bit.
As I and my friends enjoyed the show from the pit in Kansas City last night, we noticed a father with his young daughter standing just in front of us. Although not good at guessing age, I think this young lady was maybe 10 years old. Her dad carried her pink Hello Kitty backpack over his shoulders and sometimes held her up for a better view. This young girl was a fan and it showed in her enthusiasm she shared with her dad and we enjoyed watching her so much. She knew every word to Backstreets! Knowing Bruce would be coming to the back platform where we were standing, we had to get her and her dad there so she could experience it. As Tenth Avenue Freeze Out began we motioned to them to come back there with us so this young fan could meet Bruce up close.

Just listening to Dublin 2 Croke Park Man that was a fun gig. Now I'm not on the static setlist bus tho I might be in the station but man what a gig. River-heavy obviously. We were at Dublin 2 as well the one with Bono, right? The pitch was so packed that night, but we had seats. That was special not the thinking about Andrew! We walked back to our hotel afterwards which was on the south side and The Ferryman pub was blasting Bruce. It was so tempting to go in there but I knew if I stopped walking my legs would've seized up it was pre-hip replacement. A great week that was! The both shows were amazing but night 1 just edges it. That start was incredible. Not to mention Back in your arms, lost in flood, caddy ranch, tougher than rest and Jungleland. I loved my show in Dallas.

The Rising I came to appreciate more in hindsight, at least as an album - live I was instantly on board with most of the songs. It's a great piece of work, but it is overlong. If it was edited it could be more topic specific and then those extant songs could have been added as a bonus disc. A mostly solid album followed by an excellent tour, but the media hype surrounding its release was a bit too much. Over the years the album has deteriorated in my rankings. Also I think it could have greatly benefitted from being a song album rather than Which songs to omit has been discussed before here, but I have my three!

Three young men are about to undergo a rite of maturity that will take them from innocence to experience and from the last vestiges of childhood into the opening round of maturity. The unnamed narrator and his friends Jeff and Digby are what would today be referred to as poseurs although what they are really are merely young men struggling to find their identity in an increasingly confusing world. Even so, it is the misplaced identification with gritty urban heroes of books and screen by these ordinary suburban boys that situates them into a place where Greasy Lake becomes the baptismal. Trouble begins with the trio makes a far more miscalculated misidentification: that of thinking that a car parked up at Greasy Lake belongs to their friend Tony Lovett. As boys—not to mention some more mature and experienced men who should admittedly know better—will do, they act on their initial impulse to prank Tony as he is—or so they think—in the middle of a romantic tryst. After all, what other reason exists for being at Greasy Lake at night? As practical jokes go, this one almost barely disqualifies as a harmless prank: the entirety of their plan consists of jumping inside the station wagon driven to the lake by the narrator, flashing its lights and honking its horn.
