Caprice Holdings have announced that Granary Square Brasserie — a new cover restaurant brand from the Ivy Collection division of the company — will open to the public in time for Christmas and party season on Wednesday 6 December. Caprice Holdings confirmed their acquisition of the site after Bruno Loubet announced the closure of his restaurant Grain Store in July. The vast space will include a lounge and a cover bar area as well as seater restaurant space. A peripatetic menu will combine modern British brasserie style cooking with the kind of popular, clubby dishes found in all-day restaurants on the American east and west coasts. At lunch: a steak sandwich with a Burgundy sauce dip; shrimp and scallop burger, smoked salmon and crab; and an HLT!!!

Granary Square is a fantastic addition to the newly revamped Kings Cross with a number of shops, restaurants and bars. The venue is absolutely stunning with cut-glass pendant lights and chairs and banquettes upholstered in silk and velvet. The main eye opener is the gorgeous bar in the centre which is perfect for a few cocktails. Granary Square Brasserie also has a lovely large outside area which will be delightful in the summer. Expelliarmus as I was told! We also ended the meal with a Salted caramel espresso martini which went down a treat. To begin we had the Truffle arancini : Fried Arborio rice balls with truffle and Parmesa. These were certainly small delicious balls of goodness. We also had the Calamari : wasabi mayonnaise, lime and chilli. Unfortunately, it was not as good as some I have had — it was a little too cheqy. I loved the look of the Mozzarella di bufala : Asparagus and edamame with roasted pine nuts, pesto and baby basil but they had sadly run out — definitely trying that next time! For mains we had the Sirloin 10oz with peppercorn sauce and Truffle and Parmesan chips which was so flavoursome. It was a really great cut of meat. The chicken milanese was huge, moist and flavoursome with the marinated tomato and parmesan.

This cover restaurant excluding the outdoor terrace is manned by around staff with 45 in the back, and therefore the service is extremely attentive, so much so, that the staff take the time to have a chat. Brunch on a Saturday and Sunday is served between and the same applies to bank holidays , and there is no sense of urgency to vacate the table like some other venues. At , there was a sprinkling of people already at the tables, but we found that as it approached , it did start to fill up with the lunch crowd. There is also a live DJ providing entertainment in a seating area by the entrance, and is a subtle accompaniment in the background. The menu at Granary Square Brasserie is sizeable, so a good appetite is in order, but it duly makes the task of deciding what to have quite difficult in a good way. There is everything from roast chicken to a shrimp burger and Thai spiced mussels, and our waiter was extremely patient and went through several recommendations, including the daily specials, which included slow-cooked venison with cherry tomatoes. The presentation was interesting and a bit erratic, but the taste proved more appealing as I tucked into the sliced orange, the crunchy sourdough croutons, the morsels of fresh chilli, and then into the delightfully creamy burrata which sat on a bed of pesto. It was a nicely concocted dish.

We had a late Sunday lunch here, the atmosphere was good, food was generally good although broccoli was hot but not cooked, would have asked for another min in the microwave but as often the case in busy London restaurants attracting service before everything else However lovely puddings somewhat rescued situation. Amazing interior and very friendly staff. Wait time after being seated was a bit tedious however it was Valentines so understandably busy. Not a huge fan of having so many different staff changes serving us throughout the meal but that may be personal taste, much Ate breakfast here with the family including our 1 year old grandson. The welcome was warm. Originally we had requested to sit outside we are still in the middle of COVID but there were noisy stoneworks going on next door so we requested a

The decor is really impressive - though perhaps derived from The Ivy which it appears to seek to emulate. The barman was really friendly but the other staff were business-like to brusque and the tables along the far side too close together to ensure privacy The pros first; the interior decor is lovely, leaning more towards luxurious.
