Summonable creatures are one of the core traits of the Final Fantasy series, though they can go by different names depending on the game. There are 16 junctionable GFs in total, with an additional six that cannot be junctioned but that appear at random during battles or that are summoned by using specific items. These later GFs are more like pseudo-GFs. Only three GFs are story-related and cannot be missed, with the others all being optional. To make sure you find all the GFs in the game, we've listed each and every single one, including the pseudo ones, so you know exactly where you can find them. Quezacotl is one of the story-related GFs and it cannot be missed. It uses a lightning-based attack called Thunder Storm. As far as summons go, Quezacotl is fairly weak when compared to other GFs. However, it is useful as it has the Card Mod ability and Card command, which allows players to turn Triple Triad cards into items and turn monsters into Triple Triad cards, respectively. Quezacotl can be retrieved from the PC terminal in the classroom, or if you forget to do this, Quistis will give out this GF at the gate when you go to leave for the Fire Cavern test. Shiva is partnered with Quezacotl in that she is also one of Squall's default GFs that can be retrieved from the PC or given by Quistis.

Several of these GFs are easily obtained throughout Final Fantasy 8 Remastered, but some of the very best of these beings require some investigative work to find in the field and even liberate from the individuals that they are linked to. Every journey starts somewhere! The second of your starter GFs, Quezacotl is a mighty Lightning elemental who can call forth the thunder on any enemy unfortunate enough to be caught within its massive attack range. Outside of battle, Quezacotl allows players to junction their magic towards their overall health, while also providing various Triple Triad-related abilities that allow you to not only refine acquired cards into useful items but even transform your enemies into usable additions to your deck. Once again, just pop the console open, navigate to available GFs and the majestic thunder bird will be added to your roster. Ifrit can also learn Str Bonus, which will grant a permanent strength boost to their overall stats every level up. Beyond that, players can also teach Ifrit how to refine ammo for Irvine from various items, the Mad Rush ability, and how to create powerful fire element magic.
Here, you'll find properties of each of the game's GFs. GF's that cannot be Junctioned, and instead are Summoned using Items, are covered here. The information tables first provide information on how to obtain the GF. Only Quezacotl , Shiva , and Ifrit are required to be obtained to complete the game; the others are available as Draws or sidequests. Next are the GF's Abilities. They are listed in the order they appear in the menu, along with their AP cost and any requirements to make the Ability available for learning.

GFs are a major part of combat and character growth in FF8 - not only can they be summoned to deal massive damage, but they help to determine your character skills, stats and abilities via the Junction System. One thing that's interesting about this is that many GFs in FF8 are entirely optional - you can easily miss them, as they're hidden away behind bosses or side quests with little to hint that they're there. If you're a completionist and want to get every GF in FF8 , you'll need to know where every GF is so you avoid losing out on some of the missable GFs in the game. On this page we're going to list every GF in FF8 plus how to get them, including those with more complicated side quest related recruitment requirements. If you need more help with some of FF8's slightly more obtuse systems, check out our guide on the SeeD Exams and SeeD Rankings and our page on getting the ultimate weapons via the weapons monthly magazines and magazine locations for Combat King, Pet Pals, Occult Fan and Timber Maniacs. There are two types of Guardian Force in FF8 - those that can be equipped and junctioned to a character directly, and a handful that are 'passive' GFs that can appear in battle randomly. All must be unlocked, either through events in the story or through optional side actions or content. The advantage to having more GFs at your disposal is simple: you can then equip multiple GFs on each of your party members, in turn allowing you to equip more abilities and junction more stat-boosting magic. As the game will explain, you can junction different types of magic to different stats, and you can also prioritize GFs to learn certain abilities. The ability list of each GF is different, and will include active abilities that get added to your combat menu when equipped, passive abilities, abilities that you use in the menus, and abilities that unlock the ability to junction to more specific stats.
