The Bite of '87 was an incident that occurred in at the second Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location. It was briefly mentioned by Phone Guy in the first game. The Bite of 87 is an incident which led a human victim losing their frontal lobe due to being attacked during the day by an Animatronic. While the victim lived, the attack proved to be another reputation damaging event for Fazbear Entertainment , and the animatronics from then on had their movements restricted during the day. While this event is not directly mentioned, the game takes place within the same year as the bite, and the Freddy's location would be the only place it could have occurred.

Sure, it sounds like a fever dream, but the absurdity of it was part of what made it so horrific together with the tidbits of lore hidden in parts of the game that led fans to put together theories about what it all meant. So what exactly was The Bite of 87? Most of what we really canonically know comes from Phone Guy , another employee who calls us during the first game to guide us through our shift. Fans have speculated that one of the animatronics, typically from the first game, malfunctioned and accidentally bit the head of a child visiting the pizzeria, causing them to lose their frontal lobe. That said, the pizzeria lets the animatronics roam inside the location at night to keep their gears from locking up which is why you have to watch them on CCTV and try not to get killed. Okay, this is the hard bit since Scott Cawthorn would drop lore tidbits over the years that seemed connected and may have been intended to be that way but are later revealed to be about some other new piece of lore. As a result of the incident, the animatronics were no longer allowed to wander around the building during the day; the management decided to limit their free-roaming mode to nighttime, so as to "prevent their servos from locking up", as stated by Phone Guy. Whether by accident or not, the protagonist's head gets stuck in Fredbear's gnawing mouth. Phone Guy mentions that the final event of this Freddy's location is a birthday party, telling Jeremy Fitzgerald to move to the dayshift and attend the party dressed in the uniform to keep an eye on the Toy Animatronics to make sure they don't hurt anyone.
