Feasting at home
Feasting at home it comes to finding delicious, solid recipes, the internet can be an overwhelming source with its extensive recipe databases, magazine sites, cooking shows, and food blogs. There are several blogs in Spokane that review and recommend restaurants and eateries, such as Spokane Eats and SpoCOOLfeasting at home, but food and recipe blogs are a rarity. Sylvia Fountaine is a former restaurant owner, former caterer, and current chef.
There are thousands- tens of thousands- of food blogs vying for our attention, so standing out from the pack is not only advisable, but essential. Her passion for raw, high quality ingredients is immediately evident thanks to crisp photos, shot with style and simplicity. And speaking of honest, we caught up with Fountaine for an insightful look into her personal and professional journey…enjoy! Sylvia, can you take us back to when you started Feasting at Home- what was the inspiration to take your work as a chef and caterer, online? It was originally suggested by a friend as a way to promote my catering business, Feast. I fell in love with the process of creating recipes and photographing… and realized it was helping others learn how to create healthy delicious meals too.

In this day and age, we need this. But it was her paragraph titled, Cooking is Nourishing To the Soul where I was finally able to understand my yearning and comfort in cooking and baking from fresh ingredients. If you have time, I recommend reading her About page, because it is quite inspiring. I have wanted to make olive sourdough bread for some time and was searching for the perfect recipe. After reading over her detailed directions and the list of ingredients, I knew that this was the one. I decided that I would add roasted garlic to my bread just as Sylvia had suggested as an ingredient option. The site page for this Rosemary Olive Sourdough Bread recipe has colorful images and clear step-by-step directions. This should be sufficient enough to make a strong bread. To aerate and strengthen the dough, I stretched and folded the dough beginning in the afternoon four separate times over three hours before letting it rise overnight. Soon, little air bubbles began to lift up from the wet dough and in the morning it looked like a poofy dough ready for the olive filling. This final bread had an absolutely fantastic taste if you like Kalamata olives, roasted garlic, and rosemary. My husband commented that this artisan bread was the most delicious bread I have ever made. Skip to content. Subscribe Subscribed. Vermont Food Librarian.
