The family bought the pub from Punch Taverns which means, as a free house , Fannys is free of being tied to buy beers at higher prices. It also means they can bring in a series of real or cask ales and have at least one guest beers on a regular basis. Mr Shaw lives in Heaton , near to the pub, and with his family, including his brother Ken, decided they would buy, refurbish and reopen the pub as they always enjoyed the atmosphere of the Markland Hill Lane hostelry. The new owners have kept two things from the old pub — three original beer engines have been refurbished and now stand proud on the wooden bar — and the name Fannys.
