Fairy Tail is a popular fantasy anime series inspired by author Hiro Mashima's volume manga of the same name. It tells the tale of the Celestial wizard Lucy Heartfilia and her adventures with her new family, the Fairy Tail guild, across the idyllic nation of Fiore. Lucy will make many new friends, fight colorful villains with terrifying magic, and even go on an isekai adventure at some point. Devoted Fairy Tail fans will have a lot of fun rewatching this anime, and sure enough, Fairy Tail has many exciting moments that are worth rewatching. But then again, casual and dedicated fans alike have to put up with some inconveniences or annoyance when watching Fairy Tail for a second or third time, some of which are typical for rewatching any anime, while others are unique to Fairy Tail itself. Any TV show worth watching is worth watching all the way through for proper pacing, but this can be a lot to ask for.

In the current MeToo age, there are a lot of differences in the way men and women interact with each other. Things that would be seen as fine back only a few years ago can now be virtually dissected with a microscope to see whether there was harassment involved or not. Manga, essentially a Japanese comic, has been a subject of a lot of controversy due to its use of fanservice, which is seen as a disrespectful act towards women. In this essay I will examine the popular manga series Fairy Tail to show that while it may seem that the female characters in this particular manga are designed for no other purpose than to entice the viewer, there is much more to this question. This includes the actions of the characters, the personalities of those characters, the stories the characters go through, and the culture of Japan during the time that manga got popular. Feminists are split on what caused the stark difference between how men and women lived their lives. Essentialist feminists say that it is the biological differences between men and women that explain why women act and think differently from men However, other feminists, called constructive feminists, believe that a male dominated society makes women act and think differently There were many circumstances that made for a stark difference in how men and women lived their lives, since men were given more freedoms and opportunities to do what they pleased, while women were confined to one role, and that was being essentially a housekeeper. This treatment of women would carry on for many years not just in the real world, but in the written world as well. For many years, whenever stories were written that involved women, their role in the story largely mirrored their roles in real life. When authors wrote women back in the 19th century, they were never written as well as male characters. For example, Snow White was written to be extremely gullible while the Queen was written to be pure evil Gilbert and Gubar, There rarely was an in between when it came to the personalities of female characters, as they appeared to have very cartoonish, exaggerated personalities that reflected the beliefs of men at the time:. Since religions like the ones mentioned by Ryan earlier were popular in the s, the beliefs of women and their positions in social standing were widely believed as well.

Am I the only one that feels Fairy Tail was ruined in some parts with the extreme fanservice? Are you serious? Having erza crawl on all fours and get spanked by mirajane.. Really brought down both characters a bit. Oh, no, dude, I definitely think the fan service was a huge problem. It really sucks to sit through all that nudity and innuendos just to see the characters and plot.

Fairy Tail' s final season is continuing the big war between the guilds of Ishgar against the Alvarez Empire, and the various battles versus the Spriggan 12 have gotten attention from fans for one reason or another. The latest episode's fight between Wendy, Sherria, and Carla against the Spriggan 12's Dimaria is getting attention for the wrong reason, however, as some fans have pointed out how much has been "censored" from the manga's version of the battle. As pointed out by Christ4man on Imgur , there are a few edits in the anime's version of the battle that remove certain angles of characters like Meredy. The anime's version removes more fan service elements such as Wendy and Sherria's panty shots when they are kicking wind around, Dimaria's outfit being slightly changed, and a less bloody outcome when Carla is shot by Dimaria's God of Time form. The "censorship" debate comes over the fact whether or not this actually changes anything about the battle. Fans seem more bothered by the animation quality of the battle itself with many still shots rather than these changes from the manga. This is also the same episode in which Ultear's pelvis is focused on for a long duration when she makes her grand return to the series. So the argument seems to be focused on the wrong thing. Fairy Tail fans are fully aware of how much fan service is built into the core of the series , so that's probably why censorship was not the first thing fans thought of when watching this particular fight unfold. Fan service is so ingrained into each episode that fans often don't take note of when it's not around.
