The ESP32 can activate the energy-saving modes of light sleep and deep sleep, but in many cases, we cannot use such a solution. However, it is still possible to apply some options to the functional units for reducing energy consumption. Upon exit from light sleep, peripherals and CPUs resume operation, their internal state is preserved. In this table, you can see the table from the datasheet of esp32 with information on how sleep mode is grouped. Now we will check how much power consumes the ESP32 in many situations and configurations.

This is not a novelty. However, we thought it would be useful to compile some of the most used and practical Wi-Fi functions for the ESP To set the Wi-Fi mode, use WiFi. The router is connected to the internet, so we can request information from the internet using the ESP32 board like data from APIs weather data, for example , publish data to online platforms, use icons and images from the internet or include JavaScript libraries to build web server pages. In this scenario, you must set your ESP board as an access point. When you set your ESP32 board as an access point, you can be connected using any device with Wi-Fi capabilities without connecting to your router. When you set the ESP32 as an access point, you create its own Wi-Fi network, and nearby Wi-Fi devices stations can connect to it, like your smartphone or computer. This can be also useful if you want to have several ESP32 devices talking to each other without the need for a router. This means that if you try to load libraries or use firmware from the internet, it will not work. There are also other optional parameters you can pass to the softAP method. Here are all the parameters:. Your Wi-Fi project may not often work because it may not be able to connect to your router due to insufficient Wi-Fi strength. View raw code. You can upload it to your board and check the available networks as well as the RSSI received signal strength indicator. It is an estimated measure of power level that an RF client device is receiving from an access point or router.

My question is: how to turn off Wifi when I'm not connected to it and how to turn it on only when I'm connected? My code is the following it works perfectly, with the problem that it sends data even when it is not connected to anything, and that is a waste of energy :. When the BT is off because it has lost connection what's the plan for checking to see if BT is available? It still draws more than mA. Do you want to de energize the WiFI module if so under what conditions do you want the WiFi module powered down?

Skip to content. Ideally I'd like to use both simultaneously but others have reported issues with this. In the various topics I've read about this there is often the comment to turn the radio on and off for the particular stack. I'd like to keep as much of the various stack set-ups as possible and simply turn the radio on and off as required.

You can turn off the advertising, but then how will another device find it and connect with it? Great tutorial! Copy link. How do you solve this when that user does not have access to the serial print nor some ESP-attached display?
