The show featured an all-star cast stepping into well-known character roles but with subtle twists. At the front of that cast was actor Jennifer Morrison, playing lead character Emma Swan.

Grew up… an orphan. Born in the Enchanted Forest to Snow White and Prince Charming, she was transported to the real world immediately after her birth to save her from a curse. As a baby, Emma was found in the woods and put into foster care. Living… in Storybrooke, Maine, with Henry, the son she gave up for adoption 10 years earlier. Henry brought her to Storybrooke after tracking her down in Boston. Visiting… Fairytale World, from time to time. She has also spent time in Wonderland and Neverland. These trips usually involve saving Henry in some way. Interests… magic. Emma has recently begun to learn magic after discovering she had magical ability. Relationship Status… complicated. When it comes to romance, Emma is extremely guarded because of her history with Neal, who abandoned Emma when she was pregnant. Albeit for some good reasons.

Emma confesses to being what she's always been, an orphan, causing the map to uncover its contents. Upon returning to the apartment, a quake rips through town.

Originally from the Enchanted Forest, Emma became an independent woman who also falls into the Real world, giving birth to a son she gave up for adoption. On her twenty-eighth birthday, Emma's wish of not being alone is answered when her son comes to take her back to her family. Finally breaking the curse after giving Henry true love's kiss, Emma fell through a portal with her mother and returning to her birthplace. My job's not done until I do that for everyone, including you. Her son, Henry, previously given up for adoption, brings her back to Storybrooke so she can end the Dark Curse. She is also currently the sheriff of Storybrooke following Graham's death. As the show goes on, Emma learns to accept her destiny as the savior, temporally turns evil, and eventually learns to let her walls down. She eventually marries Hook and the two have a daughter, Hope. And then tragically subverted ten minutes later, when she tells him after all before sacrificing herself.

However, Emma's significance was hinted at when Rumple suggested that Snow and Charming's daughter would be The Savior. Emma was destined to free everyone from the Dark Curse, but she remained an integral part of the show after succeeding. Emma learned how to use and control magic. She got involved in the Enchanted Forest, as well as other people Emma grew up believing were fictional. Regina Mills, meanwhile, was not a hero at first. She grew angry after Cora killed Daniel and made it her life's mission to take revenge on Snow White. After years of reveling in her vengeance, Regina's plan came crashing down, and suddenly her victory was over. However, that was not the end of Regina's story, and there was more to tell before the series ended. Over time she became a reformed villain, and eventually, one of the show's biggest heroes.

Morrison said that it was a great opportunity to now play a villain and it was challenging for her to portray a character that is constantly evolving. Henry succeeds in destroying magic, only to be later convinced by the Dragon to get enough belief to recharge the crystal. However, when Regina tears down Henry's castle for so-called safety concerns, Emma becomes angry and calls Sidney. She assures him that they are family now, and won't be dying on her watch. He offers to help them return home, but insists no more portals exist. After Emma and Hook are dragged into Zelena's time portal, she accepts Storybrooke as her home, regaining her magic to re-open the portal to the present where she begins a relationship with Hook. David finds a white cloth, which is Regina's and they rush off to rescue her. Since Mary Margaret is not ready to speak to him yet, she asks him to walk Henry home. Later, the police come to take Mary Margaret away in preparation for the trial. This helps her realize Sidney was spying on her, not August. Emma tries to ask the young Pinocchio if he can remember what August was trying to tell her before, but he cannot recall. Henry begs Emma not to depart from Storybrooke since she still needs to save everyone from the curse. She regains her memories of what Hook plans, by resurrecting all the Dark Ones as part of his revenge. At the same time, Hook, David, Snow and Zelena are accidentally sucked into another realm, which they could become trapped in without any magic in the Real World.

ABC announced its cancellation of the series this past February.

Her signature clothes are black tank top, red leather jacket, blue jeans and boots, Emma has her mother's facial structures and she inherited her hair from her father and eyes from her mother. Returning to the cave, everyone searches for something that might be useful. He leaves and promises to buy her a drink in the future. Six weeks later, the rest of her friends returned to Storybrooke, with their memories were wiped out once again. Morrison had previously spent six seasons on the popular medical drama House as Dr. Emma and Gideon finally meet for the battle, but Emma survives, choosing her own fate. This allows the townsfolk to remember their previously magical lives.
